Hello - I noticed my rotors were warped so I put brand new ebc rotors on. After only about six hundred miles they have warped worse than the originals! Could something else be causing them to warp? I'm at a total loss here - thanks for any input guys. - Alex

did you measure them or just feel pulsing in the bars?

It's far more common that the rotors would get glazed than warped. Easy fix if it's glazing. just take some emery cloth and rough up both sides of the rotor.

What about your calipers being filled with DOT 4 mug after 16 years of riding? Easy to check, somehow get front wheel off the ground and rotate it! Apply some lever and see if it will continue to rotate after you release the brake. If not, you need to diss-assemble/clean/re-assemble calipers..would consider your mass-ah-cylinder too while your at it. Those systems to get muggy after years of use yah know...clutch couldnt hurt either. You didnt mention how many miles are on it either...

Keep us posted huh...inquiring minds wana know how you suss this thing out...Cheers

btw me got EBC full floaters on my 3rd gen bike/ never measured anything, direct bolt on to my F3 front wheel, no problems wut-so-eva. Been years tooo

Put your bike up on center stand. Tape a card or indicator to the folk spin the front wheel to check for warped....do the same on the rotor.

Never buy used rotors as its in the same field as buying second hand under-ware.

If you wana do a proper inspection of them rotors being waved (not to be confused with Wave-Rotors) and assuming your lever doesnt pulsate like a mo-fo when you apply your brakes, you can take off your font wheel and remove the rotor. If you have a piece of glass this would be gud at this point. Lay the rotor on the glass and use feeler gauges to measure the amount of day light under your rotor (between rotor and glass.) thats just me though.

If your lever is pulsing your rotors are fucked basically. Might be from a dragging caliper, who's knows....

i believe my calipers need to be rebuilt - pulsing at the bars - could a dragging caliper cause the rotor to warp?? thanks for all the answers

Sure, if the caliper is dragging its creating undue friction at your rotors which =s HEAT. Undue heat will warp them, Go to your friendly honda dealership and order two sets of 0-rings and dust seals for your calipers. Speak to a compitent parts person and he should hook you up ok...

The reason your pistons in your calipers are not retracting is un-due mug, smiggma, junk building up behind your caliper seals. This does not let the piston retract. Once you take them apart you will see nasty brown crap, once you clean this carefully out without gouging the alimnum and re-assemble, you will notice a drastic difference and no-more brake drag.

Far as your calipers, you may want to order new blades for them, if they are EBC they are re-buildable..anywhoooOOOOoo gud luck

It's likely that it's just one rotor that is getting warped.

When I re-did my 1996 4G this winter, new rotors were on the menu as my right rotor was sending an "I'm warped" message through the lever when I braked.

I have a left OE rotor (I am nearly certain that it's un-warped) that I'd send you for cheap if you'd like. LMK

a rotor with glazing will send a pulsing feel into the levers like a warped rotor in an automobile. Glazing is not readily obvious but may appear as a light bluing.

two ways to know for sure

simplest and easiest way is to sand with emery cloth and leave a cross hatch pattern similar to cylinder honing. Can be performed while on the center stand without removing the wheel or rotor. Ride the bike and see if the pulsing went away.

Second way is to remove the rotors and inspect on a surface plate. I could check for the acceptable spec but I really don't feel like it. Or check with dial indicator while spinning or an index card and feeler gauge like Long suggested above.

I guess there's a third way to fix if you don't care what the real cause is and that's just to buy rotors and replace them without checking anything because the new one won't be warped and it won't be glazed.

    Donuts Hmmmmm :homer:

Dial indicators are nice. His pistons are not retracting dats my diagnosis. Hence, excess heat. I had some handle-bar muffs on one of my bikes back when I lived in NJ (hippo-hands), well anyway, they were gently contacting the brake lever because of the high-way velocities I was traveling. I sort of noticed it and ended up getting heated gloves, problem solved...Just a foot note story...Nice scenery in CO fer sure, gud picture too!
