There's many factors to consider before we ride. As we get deeper into winter, the weather, always a factor, plays a greater role for those of us in the northern portion of the US (All you Canadians/Alaskan, etc. -- don't laugh) For example, this morning, weather report said Frost warning (for farmers). Temp is 1 Deg C. Will warm up to high 50's in the afternoon. Condition: Dry. Do I ride to work? Considerations: Rained on Sat...went out Sunday and roads were good. Gerbin Jacket liner still needs an ops check. Road surface probably slightly below freezing, but should be dry, for the most part. Caution around corners and fallen leaves that don't blow (hidden moisture = slippery). Conclusion: Yes. Full gear, as always... It's now warmed up to 17C, so the ride home in 5 hrs should be nice....:tickled_pink:
Be vewy vewy careful. ......I'll send some the heat your way we're having here in SoCal..stick me with a fork..I'm done
Something to add to your list of considerations this time of year are Leaf Peepers. For those unfamiliar with leaf peepers, they pay more attention to the fall foliage than to operating their cages. They like to stop in the most inconvenient places to take pics. And pretty much turn scenic backroads into complete & total cluster-f*@#ks!
If you ride the Blue Ridge Parkwway right now or any area near the Dragon be aware of the Peepers. They will stop in the middle of the road AND GET OUT to take pictures.
