Hahaha! I know what it's like with my iPhone!

I can't remember exactly the info, but I think 87 is some sort of average between Motor Octane Rating (MON), and Reserarch Octane Rating (RON)... From memory, it's Pump Octane Rating (the rating used in the USA at the "bowser" - yes, I'm Australian). In Australia our "pump rating" is the Research Octane Number. From what I've researched (too long ago, but I think Wikipedia has some info) RON of 91 is absolutely fine for a 5th Gen. FWIW, my bike makes exactly the same noises when labouring in top gear with 98 RON fuel as it does with 91 RON fuel.

Basically, the 5th gen isn't a particularly highly tuned/stressed engine, and Honda designed it to be a general work-horse, receiving (within reasonable bounds) whatever gasoling/petrol the rider puts in its tank... That is, with the exception of fuel with above a certain amount of ethanol (5%??? 10%??? I can't remember)...

I want to apologize for mis-information. I kept thinking about the 91 octane thing and the more I thought about it I thought I was wrong, so I checked again and I am wrong.

What about an older 85 vf500? i'm guessing 87 is preffered due to the older year? Also this interesting tid bit:

maybe not! i just ran into my reserve on the ride before last (on supreme 97), and decided to fill up on regular this time, out ridding around i stalled three times pulling away from stop lights, maybe i was just a bit off, or maybe my '85 500 gets a bit more kick on the bottom end on supreme???

You didn't by chance buy that gas in NFLD where they are 1/2 hour ahead of everyone else did you?

When mine was new, I tried 89 for a couple tanks, and 91 for another couple tanks and did not notice any difference. So I went back to 87 and that is where I have stayed since 2006 and 100K miles. Just like the book says to do.

I personally go for the baby seal oil additive from baby virgin seals, clubbed with the utmost respect for the animal being bludgeoned to death.

Based on the price filling your tyres with pure nitrogen should provide a huge improvement in your mpg.

What a waste. You don't even eat them? Baby seal is delicious! I think I enjoy even more than Spotted Owl.

    You are doing it wrong.

Club them, have sex with them, THEN eat them...that is the correct procedure.

Also, I find Spotted Owls to be a useful replacement for toliet paper.

Nope, just been local having clubbing baby seal sex and wiping my ass with owls.

Going to NJMP in September, otherwise just been busier than heck chasing the kids around.

Even better is the extremely expensive and hard to find baby seal spinal cord stem cell fuel additive. Not only does it burn cleaner than propane from virgins but if you crash your bike it will regenerate the damaged part.

Not to mention how much it pisses off the intellectually challenged teabilly fucktard faction.
