Rear shock replacement

Anyone know whether a VTEC VFR800 rear shock will fit my 1998 VFR800? I'm looking for a straight bolt in job (no new brackets, fabrication, hacksaw[!], etc)

Whilst looking at pictures of them both they do appear to be identical.

Anyone know for sure?

no, but a 929 shock is a direct fit

The 929 is not a direct bolt on the clevis has to be machine.

 

929/954 Shock Install (5th Gen) - VFR Discussion

I stand corrected I though the lower clevis has to be machined

 

A 929/954 shock is not direct fit. Because it is shorter. Can be made to fit . But it does require a custom top clevis. A 6th Gen shock is approximately 3/8 in shorter as well. To maintain ride height it would also need a spacer on top.

 

I think I've mistaken the direct fit shock option for the 5th gen maybe the F4i shock is direct, need to double check this

 

Why is the 954 shock superior? I have an oil filled shock from a 95 954RR, but was using my VFR shock for the time being.

 

It's fully adjustable 3-way

 

As in compression, rebound, and spring tension? I was thinking of having the oil filled shock revalved to get it just right to work with the extra weight. Any ideas on this?
I am getting aluminum-bodied custom-built QA1 single adjustable shocks (controls both comp and rebound) with threaded spring seats for maximum adjustment for the front of the vehicle.

Correction. I have the shock off of a 95 CBR900RR, It has comp, rebound, and spring seat adjustment, and it fits perfectly. The only thing is that it has a remote reservoir that might take some bracketing to hold. Not a big deal for me, since Im fabbing up my entire frame, but might make a difference for you bike guys.

 

what about a 4th gen shock on a 3rd gen?
