I have an 04 Interceptor with 11,000 miles on it. Time for a tire and chain change. Ordered a new AFAM/DID530vm chain and sprocket set from the Sprocket Center, but the rear alloy sprocket does not fit. The hole pattern is off by just a fraction, ..... ugh. So I reinstalled the old sprocket with the new DID X-ring chain and then stipped the threads off the nuts when torquing.

My Honda Manual says to use 47 ft/lbs, but I never got close.

Has there been changes, or am I just having a bad day?

Anybody else have this problem, and if so, how did you get the nuts off again. The ones I torqued, (using a torque wrench) are not comming off, nor will they tighten.

 I think your having a bad day.Try using a screw driver to pry at the nut while tring to remove it.You most likely stripped the nut before you would the lug.
They could of gave you a rear sprocket for a 5th gen.no sure though
I have a 5th gen and just change the sprockets and chain in april and had no problems.

Sounds like you are having a rough day. I also havea D.I.D. O-ring chain and Vortex sprockets (I did the 520 conversion) and both sprockets fit with no problems at all. You did not say where you ordered them from, but you might give them a call or send an email letting them know of your probelm with the sprockets and see if they can maybe send you a replacement and yuo send them the one you have. Maybe they got a bad batch. never hurts to try.

OK, ...... I got the stripped nuts off. Screwdriver trick didn't work, even ground down to a wedge point I could not "jam" it in behind the nut or washer.

Next trick was pushing on the threaded stud end with a jury rigged clamp setup, but the nut still would not pick up the threads.

    Getting desperate now.

Finally, used a power drill on opposite ends of the nut and I was able to crack them in 1/2 and remove the pieces. Whew!!!!!

Trick is to center punch one of the nut flat sides first. Then drill a pilot hole through the nut all the way to the stud, (threads). Then follow with a larger drill bit. Next, do the same thing on the opposite side of the nut. Finally cold chiesel the pieces loose and pry off with pliers.

No other damage, so a fix will be quick and easy.

Question remains. Why did three of the studs/nuts strip? The nuts were clearly over torqued by me, but I used a (Proto) torque wrench set at the recommended book setting. Something is wrong.

May you were reading inlbs instead of ftlbs or Nm.Plus if its an older torque wrench it may need to be recalabrated.

Glad you ended up removing the damaged nuts.LOL
