    Hi Folks,

I've got my bike off the road, it's in several bits in a workshop gradually costing me a fortune... I've been spending money on it getting various things fixed since May... but now it turns out most of what I already spent was pointless, and I am in desperate need of one of the 3rd gears - Honda part no: 23461-MBG-000, 3rd Gear (31T)

It seems to be on back order everywhere in the world... I tried loads of places in the States, still waiting to hear back from a place in Germany and the Netherlands, but absolutely everywhere I've tried so far has not had one.

What makes things worse is that the item is on on back order on the main Honda website.

The workshop currently has the item on back order with a main dealer in Bristol, but after waiting over 3 weeks, they've just told us it's unlikely to be available until the end of september... which is too late to make a trip of a lifetime with my Dad and we've been planning it for ages, everythings booked, and both of us would be gutted if things couldn't go ahead.

So, I'm appealing for assistance from the forum population, If anyone has one of these parts, knows of someone who does, or just happens to be passing a random parts collector, or honda dealership that could just have one around somewhere and does - please let me know... I'd be eternally grateful!

I can't help you with the actual part, but I would like to suggest something. Contact the Service Honda folks and talk to them....I had some part sourcing issues recently...and they came through. They will be able to tell you when Honda is expecting to release the backordered parts, in the USA, that is. You might try them.

I would guess something like that, no one carries in stock, as it would be rarely needed. They only order it when they need it. What I would instead try is a junkyard or EBay, connect with someone who crashed thier VFR and is parting it out. They may not even list something like that, but if they are selling a bunch of parts, ask about that one that you need.

It seems to be tha case that it's not stocked...

It's annoying as the other gear that this one pairs with was in stock and received... I'm not too sure about getting a second hand part to go with a new one... it seems a bit odd, and risky, when i'm going to the expense of replacing so many parts with new... if the second hand one was to fail shortly after the rebuild I'd be gutted.

It does seem that that the only option left, everywhere, states included seems to think the part would be on back order until anywhere between 28th September & 16th October

Still awaiting info from a couple of places, but judging by the 15 or so responses that all say the same thing so far... I'm guessing I'm gonna have to look at partfinder...

    Steven113 - prices have ranged from £78 to £89.

    cheers folks.

Any chance you could borrow a bike, or even rent one?

Thats what I would have as a backup plan in case I couldn't get it running. Heck, for something like this I would offer up my bike for you if it was running.

Good luck in your search and I hope everything works out as planned.
