Hello, just joined and I have an overheating issue. I own a 1984 VFF F interceptor, and the temp gauge reads all the way to the right (analog gauge) after five minutes of riding, the coolent level is fine, and all of the hoses feel the same temp so i don't think it is the thermostat. I think it is either the temp sensor or the rad cap any help is appreciated. Thanks Replced rad cap, deffinately not the issue, so coolent temp sensor or maybe the thermostat switch
How long have you owned the bike? It should never overheat while it's in motion unless you're low on coolant or have a serious mechanical problem......like a bad headgasket or thermostat stuck closed. Dija know that coolant should be changed every 3-4 years?? overheating at very slow speed or at rest is common if your electric fan does not kick on, and the temperature-controlled switch that turns on the fan is very prone to failure. the easiest remedy for that is a manually controlled switch.
look for leaks is fan running? maybe guage bad I would check thermostate and replace.. but the vff f model had those problems you should install the vff ff radiator:thumbsup:
Fan works fine, comes on as soon as I turn on the bike, I havn't had it long, the coolent level is fine but i havn't had a chance to change it yet, as for the thermostat, all of the hoses are the same temp so i didn't think it could be the thermostat. Also the hoses don't feel as hot as i would expect from a temp gauge that high
Thanks, great idea i stuck the thermometer in there and it was reading only 120 F, so i'm thinking it's got to be the temp sensor.
High temperature after small crash... Hello.. month ago i had a small crash on the bike. Security truck hit me on my left side so bike felt off the road on its right side.I replaced damaged crankshaft cover and gasket, and also right step holder and bike seems to go fine... But since that time i have noticed that frame gets hot very quick...i know it is usual that frame is warm little bit after long ride, but now it is really hot after short time...and also coolant temeperature gets over 100 Celsius level very quick...Is anything i have to inspect to have that problem sorted? It is not a big deal but i'm afraid it could be just a small thing causing big problems in future...I own 2004 VFR 800 Vtec... Thank You in advance forYour support Peter
I have changed an oil after the accident, now the level is higher than before...just below the max line... Coolant level checked on reserve tank is in the middle between min and max...So these things seem to be fine...
WHOA, Bunky!! The proppa way to check coolant level is under the RADIATOR CAP, not at the reservoir bottle............ It's easily possible under certain conditions to have a full bottle and a cooling system low on fluid.
I just wanted to do it in way the owners manual says...Will check radiator also... I'm wondering what happened to the bike after that crash, could be causing that overheating...I removed all side plastic fairings, (had to paint them and remove scratches) and nothing seemed to be damaged in cooling system...radiators were fine, no leakages, nothing... What i have done is just changing oil...its level is little bit higher than before, but i dont suppose it can be the reason...can it? When im stopped at traffic lights or somewhere for a while coolant temperature reaches 104 Celsius and then fan is being switched on so it falls down and again and again...And also when starting the engine (in the morning for example) temperature reaches 35 Celsius much much faster than before... So...it seems like everything works how it is supposed to work but worming up is much much faster now...And i still have that hot frame...
likely the tip over spilled some coolant and introduced an air bubble into the system which needs to be removed..... Having an engine "heat up" (especially in traffic) is not the same as having "overheating"
Hey all just an update, replaced the temp sensor did some more tests. it is the gauge that is shot. going to wire in manual switch for fan and replace gauge. do any of you know how to replace gauge? my manual doesn't cover it. thanks
