Howdy fellow ViFeeR's. This is my first post on this site. Pretty cool. Good to know there are a lot of us out there. ....although havn't met any ViFeeR Girlz yet. Well anyway....bought a 96 750f last summer. Everything has been hunky dory untill now. She seem's to be over heating. Fan works....it's either thermostat or water pump. I have some basic skills....is this something i (general VFR owner can do, or should i leave it to the dealer? Thanks!! bob bobntahoe@peoplepc.com
I saw a writeup on changing the thermostat on vfrdiscussion I believe, and it looked like a major PIA. I think someone on here actually did it and stated the same thing, too. I believe the writeup was a 5th or 6th gen, though. Dunno if it's easier on yours.
I thinkg changing the thermostat on e 3rd/4th gen may be simpler than later models because of the radiator being in the front instead of on the sides. you might try to flush the system and put in fresh coolant and also make sure the overflow bottle has the right level in it. The overflow and the thermostat housing (I believe) are behind the right side mid cowl.
