After promising change, instead he has Cinton re-treads, and a suspect financial team like Summers & Rubin who are partially responsible for the de-regulation scheme (and NAFTA) that's caused our present miserable situation. Not one liberal or progressive thinker among them.

Wasn't it Einstein who said " you can't sove a probem with the same minds that created it"?

    BUT
If he kept Gates as secretary of offense, so why can't he keep the sexy, blonde, perky white house press secretary, Dana Perrino???

hell, if i'm going to be lied to, i'd at least like it to come from her: she's HOT !!!

Isn't that the truth. I'm from Chicago too (not there anymore unfortunately), and Gov. Blago deserves everything coming to him.

I mean, what a dumbass. ALL politicians are crooks at heart, doesn't matter what state they are from. Blago was just too stupid about it and got caught. Most politicians are smart enough or connected enough not to get caught.

Just be glad Obama had no connection to the dirty rotten scoundrel's little escapade.

For the key positions I don't think you should pick folks to far out on any extreme. Trying to keep it in the center may work better for change. Naturally you will want to choose those close to the WH to have some experience working with the WH previously. This isn't a time to job train a bunch of new people. By picking people that share your political ideals that leaves the folks from the Clinton administration with the needed experience. The one's from he Carter era and they are either senile or dead by now. I think we will be seeing some progressive picks when it comes to the Depts. of Interior, Education, Epa etc.

That's just what those Obama-haters would love to hear. So I already heard from a couple of my friends who voted for McCain that Obama should be arrested too since he is from Chicago. This is not guilt by association here. Obama already had said on the wire tapped conversations that he was not making any type of offer to Blago for his suggestion at the empty Senate seat. For my McCain backing friends, it was just wishful thinking that there was a connection.

Again though, as I said before, ALL politicians are crooks in one form or another. It is the "You scratch my back and I'll scratch your's" mentality. That is how our country works, democratic or republican - they are all the same. Some politicians just take it too far and sometimes get caught.

Blago should take his punishment and consider it a blessing that he is now out of his misery serving a position in government that he obviously couldn't handle. (He and his wife - can you believe those two? I couldn't believe how they talked on those wire taps. She's just as scary and stupid as he is).

    Squirrelman:

I think I have an answer for you on why more Progressives are not picked for political cabinet positions.

Outside of the obvious reason of political favors and other such nonsense; I believe progressives are often overlooked because many of their theories or viewpoints are intellectually bankrupt. Sure, they make some good points or have good theories on some issue. Betrand Russell, Noam Chompsky, Ralph Nader, John Dewey have all said or written something I agree with or find interesting, but what little I may agree with I’ve found is often common knowledge or if one opens their eyes a little you can see very clearly without their input. Let’s take Herman and Chomsky’s book “Manufacturing Consent”, which I’m sure you’ve read, laid out the facts that media outlets are owned by corporations who will dictate viewpoints which are often not beneficial to a democratic society or any society. They will dictate viewpoints that benefit their pocket books. Ol’ Edward G. Murrow was bitching about that back in the 50’s. Common knowledge boys and girls.

The progressive thinkers intellectual bankruptcy comes from the fact they almost all fail to understand human nature and the complexities that it envelopes. Or at least they fail to fully understand greed. And I don’t mean corporate greed or greed on a grand scale because they are always writing and bitching about that, but individual greed. Greed that is in you, me, all of us individually. I’ve yet to see a progressive get this concept. Nader might, but the others I’ve read hell no. Because of this failure to fully understand individual greed progressives will never be taken seriously on a level where they have total control or influence in the U.S. At least I pray not! In addition, if anyone wants to know what a country looks like when a progressive takes over power? That’s easy to answer Cambodia under Pol Pot.

It’s the same intellectual problem socialist’s face; they almost always ignore individual greed. They somehow have deluded themselves into believing that if the wealth is shared the greed goes away? Really, roll on do roll on down to Venezuela and see how Chavez does NOT share the oil wealth with the citizens. Why? Hmmmm his individual greed maybe?

And the final coup de’ taut on progressive thinking and how it fails to understand human nature with the total disregard of God or any moral code that drive individuals to do what they do, good and bad. This is too long to get into, but historically I can drive my point home with the French Revolution. The French watched the U.S. state its independence. They loved the ideas we were coming up with from the enlightenment (Hell, some of the enlightened thinkers were French!). But they stopped short of one area our Founding Fathers did not. And that was the recognition of a functioning morality based on upon Biblical ideals that rational people could agree on. Well, one can read about how the French’s revolution went compared to ours, and I believe the French have never had the solid national identity we have because of ignoring a morality in an individuals inaliable rights.

I find it ironic you would use Einstein’s quote which was: "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."

This is such a universal statement that runs much deeper than its surface. If Noam Chomsky was running the show, we could say the same of his government. Humans cannot logically out think their problems squirrelman, we are each imperfect and flawed. So logically how can we being imperfect and flawed outthink ourselves and the problems we create?

Disclaimer: My post is not meant to thrash or attack squirrelman. His post got me thinking and I thought I would make an attempt at an intelligent response to something he brought up. I don’t live near Buffalo so going to S-man’s shop and battling it out face to face cannot be done. We can’t have a beer and debate our ideas and beliefs. So I did it here on VFRW. I would hope fellow VFRW members would be respectful and not turn this thread into a turd fest based upon the things I wrote. Yes, I’m conservative and anybody with half a brain in there head can probably see that. But I’m not a Bush loving, Limbaugh worshipping, FOX news graveling person. I enjoy history and the conservatives I most admire are Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt (minus the rascism) with a small dash of some others. In addition, I find William F. Buckley’s writing inspirational. Ann Rand makes some good points, but like most progressives, she’s intellectually bankrupt too). I just felt I should write this because its gonna be along winter and I need to see some intelligence.

News just in from USA Today: Illinois is not actually close to being the most corrupt state government.

North Dakota is ranked first in corruption, followed closely by Alaska and Louisiana.

I couldn't believe it. Illinois corruption was once something I was proud to hang my hat on when I lived there. Damn you, N. Dakota, Alaska, and Louisiana...we thought we were on top of the list.

Only Cheeney, the man who created the 4th branch of our government, can call it hunting when you drive by SUV to a bird that is in a small cage and only released when he indicates he is ready -- and just in case the bird has a leash tied around its legs.

I could be dead wrong, but it just doesn't ring true that Barry is involved in any way with the sale of his Senate seat. But his association with this cartoon character Blago does once again bring up his long history of dubious relationships with ne'er-do-wells (I didn't use the terms murderer and racist in an effort to be kind and understated), his total lack of sound judgement, and his moral failings. I have a feeling that ol' Barack is second guessing his desire to be President. Only the tip of the iceberg is visible. Wait until (if) the incompetent mainstream media wakes up and actually does its job. I'm actually starting to feel a bit sorry for the Obama!
