So I transferred to Hawaii for work a few month's back and shipped the bike to Oahu. I use the bike for daily commuting(I don't even own a car) but yesterday I had the day off so I decided to explore the island. Here's just a few pics from the ride.
thats cool. Hope you have a garage for it. Remember to use LOTS of water to wash everything down on a regular basis & use WD40 liberally. it makes kind of a mess, but it will keep things in better shape in the long run. Where are you living? It says Honolulu. I grew up in Kaneohe & Kailua. I left in 86 & have only been back a few times for short visits. Bob
Watch out. Crime is rampant on the Island. I do hope you garage your bike or at least park it on a military installation. Go up past North Shore and hit Waimea bay and hit the beaches from there to Turtle bay. Have fun and hang loose bra'. Mahalo!
You should hook up with my brother for a ride....but its a start so you may have to wait a bit after any twistys
Yeah I know crime is rampant here...every parking lot has shattered glass all over the place(especially where there's a lot of haoles). I live up in Manoa so things are pretty chill. I park the bike under the carport in front of my roommates' cars. The only way to move the bike is to move their cars first. But if it gets stolen, it gets stolen...I'm not going to spend my time worrying about it(that's why I got insurance). The rides are very beautiful but the roads here suck. Nobody here has any clue as to what kind of bike I ride. Registration cost are based on the vehicle's weight and they didn't have the VFR in their "system". I had to go have it weighed.(520lbs with a half tank of gas and the steel Leo Vince pipes). But I have seen a white 6th gen running around the east side of the island. Anyway ride safe and I'll keep the pics coming.
I went to Hawaii to get an accessory for my bike. Been there twice and look forward to another trip sometime. Would love to take the bike over there. Renting would be out of this world price wise.
I lived on Oahu from '94-2000, mostly in Mokuleia near Haleiwa. Man I miss that place, good times for sure. I used to ride a Dual sport bike back then. The ride around the island is really cool. The stretch of road between Schofield and Haleiwa should be a blast the the VFR. Sweet bike btw..
Hawaii and a VFR? Best of both worlds! Have an enjoyable stay there and keep the pics coming. BTW, how long are you stationed in HI?
If there is still a ferry service to Maui to take your bike, it would be worth it some day to ride the Hana highway...you will never forgive yourself for being so close to the Hana if you miss it!!!
Base341: Hey thanks for the tip I'll definitly check out that road. cebuVFR: It is the best of both worlds I'm having a great time out here. I'm not actually in the millitary...I'm and airline pilot and our company openned a base out here under the banner Mokulele Airlines. I figure I'll be here for about a year...splitting my time between riding, going to the beach, and flying between the islands. fish123: I see the Hana highway everytime I fly into Maui and I start to salivate. However, the only ferry service when out of buisness about 6 months ago. looks like I'm SOL there.
You are living the LIFe man! Have a great time there and post up more pics of your adventures there.
