    Hello all,

Just bought an '86 VFR 750 last night in non-running condition. I am sure I'll be bugging you guys and picking your brains to get it running properly.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

I'm sorry we cannot help you unless you post some pictures of your new toy and send us some Kansas City BBQ.

Welcome to our little Funny Farm Dukie!!! What is up with the bike? Has it been sitting for a long time? How many miles on it? How did you acquire it and did you get a good deal?

    Regards,
    Rollin

PO I bought it off said he was riding it to get his license and poof, just quit and he couldn't get the starter to engage. Sounds like the solenoid is tapping so if I remember right that is good. Mech he took it to said the timing chain could have broken (Timing chain?? This bike don't need no stinking timing chain!) I am charging the battery thinking maybe that is the problem and I'll probably buy a new one anyway tomorrow to rule that out- he doesn't know how old this battery is (The starter was not engaging to crank, so maybe this is a cheap, dead battery fix).

The plastic is pretty rough after a rattle can job by someone before last owner and fairly banged up (laydown and paint job by squid teen). No pics yet to post, it was dark when I hauled it in so I'll snap a pic or two when I get a chance and see what else I can figure out.

I paid $550 so I guess that is not too bad for what I told the guy was a parts bike if he didn't know what was wrong= he got it a few months ago on the cheap but he has two kids and other things to worry about than old, broken money holes. That is where I step in to throw more money and elbow grease at the problem.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

    Dukie,

We already know where you live from the title of your first post but please also post your location in your profile. This makes it easier in the future for other members to know where you live so that they can invite themselves over to help with the bike and drink all your cold beer

How many miles does the bike have on it?

    Regards,
    Rollin

Dukie, that's a big 10-4 on the location. You will find that these VFR folks love to come over to help drink your cold beer - even in the winter. Then after enough beer we will talk about fixing you bike until more beer is cold. Really, you may end up with many in person assistants and assistance. Sounds like you are on the right track since solenoid is clicking. Check the ground cable connection also. Sudden loss of power could be a loose ground which has enough contact to allow solenoid to throw but not turn the starter. VFR 750 is one great bike. You will never go back to the I-4 side once you have been here!
