Hi there! I just picked up my first VFR, a 1992 VFR750F. You may have seen it on eBay, it's all decked out in race fairings. The owner said he couldn't get a spark out of it, but I got it cheap and figure it's worth trying to fix! I don't think it has its street fairings, but I've been looking for a track bike anyway. I'm not new to bikes, though. My first bike was a 2002 Yamaha YZF600R, which I still have. I've also got a 1997 Yamaha YZF1000R, which I bought like this: Slowly turned into this: And finally wound up like this: And last, but not least, the girls together: After giving the 1000 a full rebuild, I know my way around a bike. Hopefully, If I can get this spark figured out, this 750 will become a sweet track bike. My only question is, do any other year VFRs have interchangeable parts? Wikipedia says that 1990-1993 are the same, so will parts from any of those bikes work for all years?
Woooooooooooooow I like your garage:thumb: I think your is a 3rg gen, so any 3rd gen parts will fit. Toe is one of the guru here, I am sure he will be chimp in shortly Many other like rollinagain also ride 3rd gen, so be patient. Great job on restore those bike.
90-93 are the same. 94-97 is similar with additional parts that can interchange but you have to do some research. Good luck with that 750. they are reliable and pretty simple. I have a whole pile of left over parts from a '90 that are for sale - coils, pickup coils, maybe even a wiring harness. Most people who try to track a VFR750 outgrow it rather quickly. Nice ride but not all that quick compared with other similarly priced and sized bikes.
Good to know! Depending on what's preventing the bike from sparking, I may be hitting you up for some of those electrics. I'm not worried about outgrowing the 750... I've never done a trackday before. And I'll probably only do a few a year, unless I get the bug. They're building a new track in Upstate NY that I'm pretty excited about. As far as exhausts go, will the 94-97 bolt right up? Either simply a slip-on onto my '92 headers or a full exhaust? Supposedly, this bike is missing the midpipe. I'm not certain what kind of can it comes with, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Thanks! To hold you guys over, here a few teaser pics from the eBay ad: I can't get up there until Thursday to pick it up, so the glamour shots will have to wait!
