Hello all. I've been lurking for the past month or so looking to replace my V-Strom. As of this morning, I am the lucky owner of a new 2007 leftover red VFR. It was a very enjoyable 18 mile ride home from the dealership.

I have one concern. I checked all of the fluid levels, controls, tires before leaving the dealer. (Yes, I have some trust issues.) One thing I didn't check was the chain slack because its my understanding that is adjusted at the factory before the bike is crated, and not part of the dealers' build checklist.

However, upon putting it on the centerstand to my surprise the chain has about 3/8 inch slack, well below the required range of 1" - 1 3/8". Does the chain typically come this tight from the factory or should I loosen it up before leaving the garage again?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Gary

the center stand drops the back tire try it on the side stand if you think it's not correct adjust it accordingly takes about 30 seconds. I adjust my chain for fun when I am bored...

Did you check it while suspension loaded or unloaded? The chain gets tighter as the suspension travels upwards.

Yes, I checked it on the center stand per the owners' manual and it was that tight. I went ahead and loosened the chain within the recommended range. Pleasantly surprised with how simple it is.

    Thanks everyone!
