Yes, VTEC started in 2002. Both the 6th & 8th gens have it.

Helibars are nice if you have back issues or like to do touring. I feel it kind of takes away from the road feel in town or in the twisties.

Quick question in regard to GDC. Do those models sound the same as an earlier model with GDC's? I read they moved the GDC to the side of the engines...... Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Cam gears are at the side on 5th gen, but the sound is still there. I looked for a 5th gen myself, figure it's the best for my kind of riding, and has that wonderful sound.

But I make a deposit and I will be driving north to pick up my new to me 1999 VFR 800. I got a lot of extras with it. Looking forward to it and thanks again for the insight. I will post a few pics with the luggage rack mounted. This is why I really went for this one as i want it for touring. I also have a brand new micron exhaust, Givi windscreen which stands taller than the stock and a power dyno power commander. I have to some research in regard to the power commander as I really do not need speed so it may be a part that sits on the shelf for a while. More pics to come once I bring her home next weekend.

Nice. Power commander smooths out the throttle on the fuel injected models. Let me know if you want to go for a ride. I'm in Kewaunee. Right off 42 on lake michigan. Your going to like that bike.
