I've been a rider for quite a few years, but I've always rode cruisers. My current bike is a Victory Vegas, which is an awesome bike, but after trying to keep up with a friend on a Buell Ulysses through the snake, I've come to the conclusion that I need a better handling bike. I've always admired the VFR's, and was wondering if anyone can give me some opinions on riding them to help push me over the edge. Thanks,
    G

Welcome Glenn. The VFR is just a great bike that doesn't do anything the best in any category, but it does not do anything wrong, that is why we like it. It is one of the best all around bikes out there. Great for touring, around town splitting thru traffic, canyon carving, and not bad on a racetrack with some suspension upgrades as well. Another big plus is that the V4 motor is pretty builtproof. There are many many guys with over 75k, and even over 100k, and up. Change the oil and coolant and that motor will run forever just about.

lots of roles covered by the VFR. I commute on mine and twist the throttle on my days off in the twisties. You can add bags for a road trip as well. different from a cruiser by far.

The VFR is a great bike if you are not looking for the fastest or the fanciest or the newest thing out there. It is rock solid, sounds good, handles good, and looks good. Mine is a 98 with over 55000 miles and still runs and handles well. I can keep up with most on the street and I can ride all day without crying like a little girly man. That's why to get a VFR.

I'm not into running full out on the curves, but I would like to have a bike that handles better. Riding a cruiser like the vegas is comfortable, but with forward controls and 33 degree rake, it's made to live up to its namesake, cruise. I live in Virginia close to the border of TN, and the snake is road 421 that comes from bristol nascar race track and runs south into north carolina. It doesn't have as many curves like the dragon down in the smokies, but alot of people come through just to ride it. Awesome country to ride through. There's a little store in a little place called Shady Valley that all the bikers stop at and set and talk while having a soda. Neat ride. Thanks for your opinions on the vfr. I heard one online a few years ago with staintune exhausts, and it sounded so much like a small block chevrolet, I fell in love with it. Thanks again,
    G

Hey Glenn, I'm just down the road in Johnson City, TN!!! There are a few other members of this forum who live in the area. We all need to get together for a ride. We are willing to overlook the fact that you are riding a Victory, I might even ride my Honda ACE if it will make you feel better.:thumb: I don't ride Shady very much...too many squids and LEO's for me, but I will venture up there every once in a while. Let me know when you want to get together for a ride.

There is another thread here where I said a Victor Vegas or 8-ball would be my primary choice for a second bike... Not sure I can add what has already been said... The VFR is the best all around bike period... It Corners, it Pulls, and it cruises, all while looking and sounding cool too....

My In-laws live in your area and I keep wishing I could bring the bike down to cruise some of the roads in that area...

I seen on one of the forums, how people came up with the names they use on the vfr site. I noticed that someone stated that they had logged in their name and it stuck. That's what I did, so I went ahead and changed mine from my name to my handle. glennheath is the same as UHSCaptain. I ride with a motorcycle ministry out of abingdon va named Under His Shadow, and I've been stuck with the Road Captain job for about the last 6 years, so if I have to do the job, I'll take the handle. Eddievalleytrailer, that is cool that you live so close. I told my wife that it's amazing that we have 300 million people in the U.S., and I run into someone that lives so close to us. The group I ride with is always doing rides and rider poker runs for charities. If you want to hook up with us some, that would be awesome. Most of the guys ride harleys, but we don't care if someone rides a scooter if they want to hang out with us. I came through Jonesboro this past saturday, though I was in 4 wheels, and seen the big bike show you guys were having. To bad it rained. Mr.JoelieC, if you happen to be down visiting the folks, let me know. You can take my bike for a ride through the country.
