Hi All, I've been enjoying searching through this site, and reading your various posts. Right now, I have a 1983 Honda Magna VF750C, and I'm considering getting a sportier bike. I want something that I can ride comfortably for long distances, yet can handle real well and be quick and powerful when necessary. So that's how I got intrigued by the VFR's. I like the engine on my Magna; I realize it's the same as the engine on first generation VFR's. I'm a little torn between the Interceptor and a CBR 600 RR. I've always wanted a sports bike, but just not sure that it will be practical for the kind of riding I want to do. I like taking 3 to 4 hour trips, and also would like to be able to do some longer distance travel down the line. Would most of you recommend that I look for a gear-driven older version VFR or the newer VTEC models? I know alot of folks aren't crazy about the VTEC, but I imagine the newer versions have some advantages in terms of handling, etc. David
well, you will be more familiar with the engine if you go with the VFR over the CBR. The VFR will sound better. The performance is comparable, but the CBR prob a tad quicker because of being lighter. The 5th gen VFR 98-01 is what I ride. Can't complain. Haven't ridden new ones, but cost difference vs upgrades don't make it worth switching. No opinion on VTEC, but gear cams sound cool when you get used to them. At first, I thought something was wrong with mine until I found this site and someone told me. I also was looking at CBRs and Superhawks. VFR is good compromise between being able to ride in relative comfort and being able to ride fast.
For longer trips, I would think the VFR would be more comfortable to be on. But that's just my personal opinion. My VFR is certainly (93, 3rd gen model) fast enough to run witht eh CBR's. Like reg, I canot comment on the VTEC and I have not ridden a VFR that has it. Good luck on you decision. :thumb:
