    Hi all

Just joined the forum after buying a 2008 VFR800. Have wanted one for about the last five years and have now at last got one!!

Replaced fluid of clutch system and I won't go into the details of how I struggled but I got it done.

Now I need to do the brake fluid as well, but I can already see I will need to do a lot of studying before I attempt it!!

Anyway I hope to get a lot off advice from the site regarding this!! When I get the courage together!

One question so long, a 2008 model will be a gen6 you guys talk about?

    Marco

Welcome! Yes, the 2008 is a 6th gen. The brake fluid is not hard to do. Here is good write-up someone did that explains the process and has some info from the service manual (if you do not already have). Read over it carefully and make sure you understand what is going on before actually doing it and will make things a bit easier. Good luck and post up some pics of your bike as everyone here likes pics!!

Welcome to the World Marco, if ya have a buddy that's experienced with this you two can learn together. OOTV here is very good at maintaining these scooters, hopefully he'll chime in with advice.
    Good luck

Welcome to the World Marco! Yes, the brakes are a little more than meets the eye but in reality it's more time consuming than difficult. That being said, having the Honda Service Manual is not only very useful but almost mandatory for the brake bleeding process.

For the most part, the fronts are really a separate system, apart from the SMC (Secondary Master Cylinder) on the left fork. Bleeding the fronts are just as simple as any other front brake system, when bleeding the back, that's where the process gets tricky and time consuming.

It's best to have a helper when doing this unless you have speed bleeders, as the process of bleeding the PCV (located near the battery) can be difficult to reach at the same time you need to trigger the SMC on the front fork. Although the first time I did my 6 Gen I did it myself, it was a bit tricky but with speed bleeders this is now a more simple task to perform.

The bleeding process for the rear sub-system does suggest that the front left and rear calipers be removed and tilted so that the bleeders are pointing up, which makes the front one difficult to trigger but it's feasible. This is why having someone to help comes in handy.

If you don't have the Honda Service Manual, it can be found online over here at VFRDiscussion.com (for some reason the one here has been lost). http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/index.php?/files/file/220-02-09-honda-vfr-service-manual-optimized-bookmarked/

BTW, there is also a really good how-to guide that one of the members over there posted on how to do the bleed process and was actually what I used in conjunction with the Honda Service Manual.

    Cheers!

I had someone help me bleed my lines in 2014. Well that isn't quite true. I helped someone bleed my lines. Well that is kinda inaccurate too. Someone bled my lines and I watched. While we were at it, we replaced all the bleeders with speed bleeders. They are cheap and well worth the minor expense. I agree, the process does not look difficult but is time consuming. Make sure you keep that fluid off any painted surface though. Clean spills very well if they happen. That stuff is a bugga on paint.

    Welcome to the World.
