Got my new Sargent seat and put it on. I really like the quality construction and the fit. My bike is the asphalt black with the red wheel tape, so I got the one with the red welt...it looks great IMO. I like the way the cowl fits over it too...much tighter than on the OEM. I'm short so I was hoping to get some small amount of benefit there as some have said the Sargent is narrower, but I haven't really found that to be true. It feels good to my butt, but (ha!) I've read that I should expect it to get better with break in. I still slide a little bit on decel and braking, so I've got some Stompgrip pads that I'm considering putting on the tank sides. Has anyone done this and if so, what brand/type grippy stuff did you use? I see Snakeskin is an alternative? Thanks guys... Steve
What kind of pants? My sargent grips better in denim than it does if I'm wearing my leathers. I don't have any stompgrip but have considered getting some myself...
Hey Dude, right now with it being still cold, I'm riding in textile gear cause that's what I have that's warm with a liner in it. Seems a little slippery. Keep in mind, I just started riding this type of bike coming from a cruiser. I'm constantly practicing keeping my legs clamped on the tank, holding my gut tight, and just a light touch on the bars. It's amazing how that helps to maintain the riding position more comfortably. I was just worried that the stompgrip pads would be uncomfortable with denim pants (kevlar reinforced, but still denim is nice in the summer for around town). I saw some called Snakeskin or some such...it seemed to be less aggresive in how raised the texture is. Have you seen it?
Nah, I haven't seen that. Your post was the first mention of it. A friend had the stompgrip, though and I rode his R1 with it. I think if you were wearing denim riding pants, the stompgrip would be noticeable. I remember feeling the bumps on it so if you clamp your legs, youd notice. The upshot is that if you are hanging off with inside leg down then outside leg sticks to tank much better giving you more security. I don't think it's super necessary on the vfr unless you ride hard a lot, but OTOH, I don't think it's hurts to be prepared just in case. As far as for general day to day riding and gripping the tank, I don't find the stompgrip necessary. That being said, I almost always wear leather so the grip from them is a little different than textile.
