    Santa came early

More parts and now almost have what I need to assemble the bike. I Lack radiators , carbs and powdercoat wheels in the meantime have to do some engine work before I bolt on frame. Image.jpg Image 1.jpg 20151219_101350.jpg

The frame and swingarm are powder coated and I will probably do the wheels too. All the hardware, subframe , rear axle and brackets are zinc plated. I sprayed and baked all the black parts with PJ1 black enamel. The engine will wear the original paint which is marginal but they are just too hard to colormatch and get good coverage.

Like the way it sounds/looks If you don't mind who did the zinc plating. I used to try to colormatch but I think Honda tricks us. I've done lots of paint used to shoot big trucks still have the older equipment. I have seen & heard great stuff about a shop in Dallas. Downtown Paint & Upholstery I think Jerry is the front-man? I have a 78 Honda SS 750 I'm going to try him if/when I paint it. When I bought my Y2K I was looking at a 97 to me looks better the 5th Gen just my .02

I used Texas Presicion Plating in Garland for the zinc , they do good work but you must bead blast parts prior to plating or run the risk of the acid dip not removing rust or scale and it's cheap ( $150 for all the parts in the pic). The frame/swing arm was garnet blasted and powdercoated an aluminum color by local guy nothing special there. The wheels will be white of which I have other bikes with white and while the look great they are royal PITA to keep clean.I have tried both to paint and coat and there are trade offs so to each his own. I like my 4th gen both the performance and the looks not much for 5 gen and on.
Honda paint can decoded and matched with relative ease but at a cost. Image.jpg Image 1.jpg Image 3.jpg Image 2.jpg Image 5.jpg Image 4.jpg

    my 4th gen Big Red

Probably the best rider of all time and certainly my first choice for lumping around day to day and it's closely related to my other vfr's so service is no problem.

Thanks for the info. The frame/swingarm looks great! Way better than raw aluminum.

I was into buying the 97 but the salesman didn't contact me in time. The 00 owner was great as expected owner vs salesman bought it haven't ridden it much before it came I totaled a 2011 Peterbuilt!

Looking good! Don't ya just love builds like this? Everything new/clean and fits together fairly easy. Biggest problem is making sure you don't scratch anything going back together.
