Hi All, another newbie to interceptors - just got an 04 ABS w/ 2,600 mi. on it. Previous bikes were '76 CB400F, '81 CBX, '82 v45 sabre. (man, do I know how to pick the classics!) I'm kind of a techno-geek-nerd - did all of my own service on those bikes, with good results. I ordered the Honda shop manual on this one, and I'm not sure if I'll try the valve adj. at 16K or not(!) A couple of observations on the 04 VFR (keep in mind this is after a 10 year break from riding) WOW! the thing handles like it's on rails, and rides pretty comfortably. The riding, brakes, etc. really inspire confidence. It's easy to drive, does about everything you expect, but it's fast enough to get ahead of you, if you're not careful. I'm 51 now, and still in good shape and alert, but not as quick as I was at 21. It's a real techno-marvel: v-tech, PAIR, ECM, FI, ABS, and a lot of other letters that do things for you that you can't do for yourself. I've gotta say that the lean stumble thing between 2-3,000 rpm (after warm-up) is annoying - it feels like 1 or 2 cylinders are so lean they just misfire about half the time, or really out of synch. My sabre had more low-end grunt and smoothness (I miss the shaft, too) The v-tech feels like a 4 bbl carb kicking in, but I don't kick it much. The guy I bought it from didn't put but about 700 mi. on it in the last year, so I'm trying some injector cleaner for the first couple of tanks to see if some of that smooths out. I've read a lot of the threads about this, and am willing to try some carb synch adjustments, but don't really want change the PAIR system or 02 sensors like some guys. Anyway, I'm open to advice and suggestions. By the way, I ran my sabre for 14 years and 50,000 + miles on plain (auto) Castrol GTX 20w-50 , with changes every 3,000 or 6 months. I had no problems, even though some said those '82 v-4's didn't keep the cams lubed; mine was fine - clean & no visible wear to the cams, no smoke out the pipe.
