Good Day to all. this my 3rd forum. 1 forum per bike i built. Cb500T was bike one, and had a forum for that, CB 750 bike 2, and there was a different forum for that one too, So now I join your forum in hopes of learning about my latest acquisition. 1986 VFR 500F.
I bought it today off a guy that had wrecked it. and it was sitting in his back yard. 25 K miles on it. Needs Radiator, front subframe, battery, right clip on, right exhaust, and fairings. Havent got it to run , but not overly concerned yet. I took the panels off (or what was left) and engine area looks pretty clean.
    Wish me luck.

Off to scour the threads and learn what i have!s

Oh who am I you ask. Wine sales guy, retired CCS racer. I have 3 bikes so far plsu the VFR. 2004 Ducati ST4, 2008 Yamaha WRF 250, and a 1980 CB750 Street fighter. I tinker on bikes, and sometimes sell them :)

Napa the autoparts store ?? :numbness:

First thing to do on any newly-purchased VF500 is a compression test b4 buying any replacement parts. Valve problems are a not-uncommon bitch.

Any milky deposits on the dipstick or loss of coolant from the radiator could indicate a problem that you'll probably never rectify but good luck anyway. Expect the running engine to sound super smooth or it's probably fucked. :potstir:

Here she is. I drained the gas tank and cleaned out the pet cock. Don't know if it was dirty but cleaned it and blew some air through it anyway. Put the tank back on with some fresh go go juice and she went Vroom!. I let it run only for a minute or so since the radiator is FUBAR'ed. Engine sounds great. I got alot of parts ordered last night. Radiator, front sub frame, all filters, plugs, clip on. I found a shop in santa rosa that fixes dented gas tanks. I am hoping it wont cost more than a hundred to pop the dent out. About all I am missing now is plastics. I really want full fairings. Will full fairng fit on any 84-86 VF500?
