Hey Mick Welcome to the site!!!

I started out on a 1986 VF-700 and progressed my way through a 1992 and now an 06 ABS. I would recommend something in the late 90's or early 2000's to get you started. The ride has always been the same but the bikes differ some with the styling. You could probably pick up a used 99' or 00' pretty cheap in your area. Get the feel for one of those and then move to the new 6th generation. Don't be scared off by high mileage, these bikes were built for the long haul. My 92 had 37k when I sold it. Do your research and get a good mechanic before you buy. Let me know what you find out.

    Good Luck,
