Well, I've finally got around to creating an account on this forum. I've been getting lots of good advice by just searching for stuff I've been having problems with, and there seems to be a wealth of information out there. Anyways, I just bought a 5th gen with only 36k km on it, and life was looking good. Corbin seat, GIVI top box, yosh exhaust sounds soooo good! And it's red so it goes faster. Ready and raring to go out on a long ride now that summer seems to be here. Only thing is that on my second day of ownership, upon returning to the bike after a short ride downtown, she won't turn over. Dead battery??!! NO WAY!!!! So I get my buddy to help me bump start it - this thing is a helluva lot heavier than my last bike - and make it home safe and sound. Do some research on VFRworld and find out that the R/R unit is to blame, as well as some questionable wiring. So off to Wire My Bike I go, and order up some new parts. Got the RR unit, just waiting for the wiring harness to show up. Damn mail is too slow! I thought Texans didn't mess around, but it appears that my package has been sitting there in the post office for a week! Meanwhile, it looks like the fan isn't turning on when it should - or even at all. If I didn't know how good this bike was, I'd be starting to get upset right about now. I guess it's these little things that you have to figure out that endear us to our bikes. Kinda tightens the bond so to speak. So I'll just have to be patient 'till I can get out on some nice long rides, and really experience what everyone here already knows!

Hello and welcome boss! Sorry we missed you. You came about near our annual west coast migratory flocking of viffers. Sounds like you have already discovered the joys of the R/R. I have had the same fate myself. I would strongly advise to inspect the wire and connector coming from your stator. Long story short, my R/R fired. I had to replace the battery, the R/R, and I put the VFRNess on. I also bought new wire extensions and connectors from the stator and R/R. Well, a year down the road I find that those very wires and connectors were fried. I should have listened to my gut and replaced them. Oh well, live and learn. I was just happy to find the culprit, AND already have the new wire and connectors in my hand. Had her going in no time. I have a 98, so feel free to pick my brain, or my nose if you want.

    Cheers,
