I picked up a 2012 DR 650. First Suzuki I have had in over 30 years. My neighbor has one is always going off adventure bike riding out west of where he lives, lots of dirt roads, farming areas and woods. I have a bad ass CR 250 but its strictly dirt and this is a road optional bike. I think I will ride it a lot. Only 1300 miles from the original owner who I know, with 2 oil changes, new tires and OEM tires, 2 more oil filters and 2 helmets. Ridiculous price and immaculate bike. Came out of my vacation fund so I have to replenish it or the old RD 350 may have to go. No way I will miss climbing this summer. My neighbor who has a 2011 has done extensive mods, bore to 780, cam, piston, carb, shaved head, pipe, seat and more. His bike is a beast but he is big, 6'5, 260 so he needs the grunt. I think I'll just do a pipe and rejet for now.

Been having a blast on it. Went for a ride with my neighbor who was going to show me some of the trails he has found near here. Was having a blast then we came to a "usually not wet section", he went first, not terribly deep the. I went no big deal. On the way back I must have been 8" off my track on the way in and I found the mother of all holes. Swallowed the entire bike, water over the seat. Must have been a full or half track hole. We got it out easy enough and he gave me the peg push out to a road. It's been a long time since I rode bitch but we made it home got my trailer and spent the rest of the night tearing her apart. Flushed the oil cleaned everything. Started right up. Rode for 10 min dumped the oil again and rode another 20. Dumped it again just to be safe. This thing is built like a brick shit house. Its cleaner than when I got it. FMF pipe goes on tomorrow and a jet kit on the way.
I'm glad it did not hydro lock and bend a rod. Its built like a tank. My friends engine builder tore his down and did his own big valve job and bore on his said the bottom end is ridiculously over built, lots of oil flow too.

The hole is actually a little deeper further behind the bike. I have not buried a bike in a long time and never a 4 stroke. Smokers are easy, I was worried that I was looking at a rebuild, Glad it was not some of the Florida Muck further out west, that crap is evil, almost as bad as clay.

I have not had my XRR trail riding yet, but when I do go, I sure don't want to hit a hole like that, especially if it's loaded with our good 'ole AL red clay :^P ...

I was amazed that the inside of the filter was still clean. The motor had a lot of water in it and when I took apart the exhaust I poured a pond full out of the giant can.

The worst I have ever been stuck was in central Fla on a friends farms clay pit. We got his tractor stuck for a bit trying to get my truck out. Clay is like Teflon.

Maybe a deadman switch on your next puddle jumping excursion..;)

Any kind of abrasive in the innards of todays close tolerance bikes is gonna raise hell.

At least it was just a puddle. A harleydood once went into a sinkhole and his crew swore he had been abducted by aliens.

I use one on my boat when solo off shore fishing. I troll a lot in not so flat seas and if no one feels like getting up super early to fish I still go. Don't want to try and swim 20 miles home.

The first time I went surfing in northern Cal in the summer I froze my ass off with a full wet suite on. I see some of the crazy guys up your way surfing in winter! No thank you.

One biggie up this way is Nelscott Reef. The water temps here run around 43F. Sometimes the Winter temps are warmer than the Summer temps.

The surfers are out most of the year except during the big storms.

Kinda depends where one grows up. Two relatives of mine live in Hawaii, Hot Boogie Boarders. Visiting SoCal and doing some surfing they thought the water was cold..

Had a customer that dumped his xr650 in a canal, we used motor flush and did a few oil changes, far as I know, "big-jim" is still riding that chit.

I like the DR specially since it got that magical button on the right side. You gona do the Toy-Run this Sunday at Marcum Park?

That is good to hear. The bike seems fine, can't tell any difference since. Put a FMF on it last night and now it sounds like a proper motorbike.

Not going to the toy run, going deer and hog hunting with my son. Are you going?

What kind are they? Down here they are a mixed breed mostly and the sows are excellent. I have seen the descendants of the Russians boars that were brought into the Tennessee area to hunt, they are HUGE and very destructive.

Here they are mostly V Twins.

On some of the islands off the Cal coast there are javalinas. Mostly on Catalina. they feed off the very strictly recycled edible garbage. They used to have a scheduled hunt when the herd needed thinning.

Read some stuff about those big boys down your way.. Not your Porky Pig models, that's for sure.

We have open season year long as they are out of control with how fast they breed. On the west Fl coast people lose their entire lawn in 1 night. A lot of states are year round like Texas where they have helicopter hunts.
