any differences between (single sided) swingarms of the various generations ?
i'm planning to adapt one to my bandit 1200 , and i've either got the wrong year , or possibly bitten off more than i can chew !! particularly interested in
the width at the pivot , as the '02 unit i have is almost 3 inches wider than
    the bandit swingarm.thx

    Yes.

Definately many variations to the various swing arms - probably the earlier ones would be the best bet, since they mounted to the frame in the traditional manner, wheras the 800 onwards mount directly to the rear of the engine block. The VTEC also has a longer swingarm than the earlier 800's.

Even the VFR 400 single siders have been used for other bikes..

    Hope this helps ?

Yep, pretty much what Rogue is saying. frame to frame you'll need a 97 or older.

I'm dealing with the same thing, but I'm trying to mod to a FZR600. I bought a '93 model swinger that measures roughly 241 mm across. Be carefull of the neadle bearings on one side. I had to destroy the bearing and still could not get all of it out. There really is not as much material to take off of that side as you would think as the wall thickness of the swingarm itself becomes an issue. So will finding a machinest to do the work.

If you do proceed, here are a few things I've learned so far. 1)This is a great orginization to get info from as the people here are very friendly. 2)The shock is offset from the pivot so you will need to move the shock mounts. 3)The swingarm pivot is centered on the wheel which should be centered on the frame. 4)Buy a 3/4" metric socket drive and torque wrench.

Hope this helps. I've been waiting for a machinest to finish the cut down on the swingarm for 3 weeks and counting.
