Hi, My 1983 VF750F Interceptor has been stood for a few years. It fires up OK, but the hydraulic clutch would not engage. I bled it and now it has plenty of pressure but still does not operate. I took the slave cylinder off (3 bolts) and the piston in moving freeley and I can see a long rod which runs through the engine, to the clutch I assume. It appears that even though the cylinder moves, its not enough to disengage the clutch. However, I ran the engine, pulled in the lever and selected 2nd gear. After a clunk it worked and the clutch disengaged, but when I let the lever out, the rear wheel starts to turn but I cannot re engage the clutch again unless I stand on the rear brake. Sound like a sticky clutch? if so how do I fix it? It has fresh engine oil 10/40 non synthetic. cheers
a common problem after long-term storage, best way to free sticky plates is to ride the bike and use engine braking.......shift from 3rd gear to 1st (but don't over -rev) and use front brake to further slow bike...... basically, you need to JERK the bike forward with throttle and Jerk it back with engine braking. another possible cause is warped plates, usually a result of juvenile hooligan abuse. bleed the clutch hydraulics while slave piston is fully retracted; use C-clamp on piston to hold it in while bleeding. After that, make a nice cuppa tea.
Need hep with clutch Many thanks Squirrelman, I was hoping it was just sticky (damp British weather!). It should be in good condition having only covered 20,000 Klms. I will bleed it again with the clamp the cylinder as you suggest which may give it a bit more movement. Cheers.
