I decided I wanted to stop paying the stealerships to flush tranmission and power steering fluid. I had a hand vacuum pump for flushing brake fluid, but it would take forever to flush 7 qts of ATF. So after some research I stumbled on this baby:

Amazon.com: Mityvac 7300 PneumatiVac Air-Operated Fluid Evacuator: Automotive

For $86 it's a really high quality unit! The website says it also comes with a brake/clutch kit. It's a really nice hose with a good quality valve in the middle and a thick 90 degree rubber boot. Too bad I just serviced my brake and clutch on my bike. I'm doing the power steering and transmission flush tomorrow!

I need to swing by the Honda to get some Brake/Clutch fluid to service the bike this weekend.

I bought a Mityvac in order to bleed my clutch and brakes. I can't believe that I did it manually in the past. It takes a fraction of the time with the bleeder. Definitely a great product.

I have heard of this...is it really that good? will it cut down on mess? What about particles and bits of debris, sludge can it get that crap out? And how do you know it got all the oil out?

I used my Mityvac today for the first time. It was awesome!

First thing I did was suck all 7qts of ATF fluid out of my Jeep. When I went to drop the pan instead of getting a shower of gushing ATF there was just a little in the bottom of the pan. It beat the heck out of spilling fluid all over the place and made the job much easier.

Next I used the Mityvac to suck the power steering fluid out of my Honda Accord with 148k miles. There was little specks of junk at the bottom of the resivior and the suction is strong enough get these bits out. I was feeling brave and disconnected the return line from bottom of the resivior and stuck the suction tube inside the return hose. I lifted the front axle off the ground and turned the steering wheel left to right several times to suck out any dirty fluid in the steering rack. I put the lines back and filled up with new fluid. Saved myself about $120 in labor!

Now I was drunk with power and sucked the fluid out of the brake resivior and topped it off. I did a brake job on the car about 6 months ago, so the fluid was pretty clean, but what the heck, a quick drain and refill couldn't hurt.

Anyways...using the Mityvac for the VFR: I don't think I could use it for oil changes since the fill hole doesn't reach down to the bottom of the oil pan. But using the Mityvac on brake fluid and clutch fluid is going to be a life saver. Just open plug in the boot to the bleed valve, open the valve, and slowly pour fluid into the resivoir (so it doesn't go empty and then suck air).

I found the Mityvac on Amazon for $86 and it paid for itself on the very first ATF job on my SUV.
