Ok, who on here likes to use their legs to power a two-wheeled cycle up a hill? Any mtnbikers onboard? How many/what kind bikes do you have?? I currently only have two bikes, a FS (full-suspension) and my (SS) single-speed baby. I currently have only ridden my SS the past year....yeppers, I am a single speed freak!

Oh, and where do you all ride? When/how often? Here are some pics I thought I would share of my posing arse...

Believe it or not, it started out as 60 or so and sunny, but we ran into the snow as we climbed....a little more than we anticipated....I thought I was gonna be the first case of frostbite on my toes in San Diego

Great pictures and sweet toys there. Hey, I'm an avid MTBer. I have two Rocky Mountain Bikes. A Slayer 70 with full 2007 XTR gear and an Element 70, again upgraded with full XTR gear. I also have some nearly antique MTBs, 2 of them to be exact, a Trek 800 hardtail with XTR V-Brakes, Mavic Crossland wheels, and XTR drivetrain. And a Schwinn S-20 again with XTR-V-Brakes, Mavic Crosslink wheels and XTR drivetrain.

You can check out a picture of the Rockies in my gallery.

I do a lot of biking here in PA at places called Greenlane, French Creek, Valley Forge, and Easton. I've also been riding in Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland. I've ridden out your way twice, once in LA, rode to the top of Mt Santiago and down, what a trek! and another time in San Francisco closer to San Jose, but I don't remember the name of the park.

I prefer cross country singletrack techincal trails, but I don't have a problem hammering a technical downhill either.

it's an awesome sport and to be honest I think all my riding has helped me much with my cycle handling skills.

    Jason,
I have been Mtn. Biking for several years and currently ride 2-3x/week here in western NC at trails in the Bent Creek Forrest, Pisgah Forest, Tsali, and Dupont. I am also an avid road biker and Haywood county has a some of the most beautiful climbs. Currently I am training for a century ride called the "Assault on Mt. Mitchell". On these sunny warmer days I struggle with what two wheeled bike to ride - one with pedals or one with a motor.

I've been mtn biking since 1992. I have an Ibis Mojo steel hardtail....
I make a migration to Mammoth every Labor Day weekend for a Mtn biking getaway.

I prefer trails that are mostly cross country as well, but a love a little bit of flowing downhill. San Juan Trail (the one in the pics) has over 26 180 degree switchbacks at the end....amazing...

Oh, and I am jealous of your slayer....beautiful bike!

Do any riding closer to your home Puma? Are we talking serious downhill at Mammoth, or a mix of cross country and downhill?

What kinda steeds (bikes) you got Brian? Assault on mt mitchell sounds like cool....sounds like a good push!

You need to break that old girl out Tim! Brush the dust off of her!

I am very happy to hear the good news about your daughter!

    Jason,
Yeah, I ride the trails in the East Bay, there's lot of good stuff here. Quite a mix and pretty hilly....some stiff climbs in places.

At Mammoth, I ride the singletrack trails...the Ibis isn't particularly suited to those, so I sometimes rent a full suspension bike. The Giant Reign was memorable on the "Off the Top" trail.

Giant Reign was rated "Bike of the Year" by mtn bike action a year or two ago. Nice all around bike with the right pogos (suspension).

Actually, that is my friend's, but I have one too...just bought it last June. I keep downsizing my truck each time I get a new one...next car will probably be a hybrid....here is my whip:

I love Toyota trucks...I had a '95 Tacoma for about two years until I had to start commuting from the Berkeley area to the San Mateo area. The truck was just too ungainly and fuel-demanding for commuting, especially in the traffic of the peak dotcom boom. I sold it but if I had owned it outright, I would have never gotten ride of it. I took my Trek V-bike to Moab in it in '95.

Utah, in general, is pretty wonderful, but Moab is very special. I spent about a a week there in 2006 doing landscape photography at Arches. The guy who owned the bike store in Mammoth where I rented the Giant Reign was there at the same time, and he and his group almost got into a very dire situation when there was a flash flood at Bartlett Wash in Canyonlands Nat'l Park. They just got out before they thought they were going to have to call in air rescue. It was no joke.

Gotta be careful mtn biking there, people can and do lose their lives riding in that area.

Yeah, Utah as a whole is a great place....I love that state. Moab just has so many things to do. Here are some pics to share of Arches National Park.

Hmmmmm...what does this rock remind you of???? hahaha

It is just amazing how that rock is just balanced on there.

I have a 2001 Trek 6700 hard tail, need to update to full suspension. I think the MTB riding helped me when I first got a dirt bike in '06 and later moved to street.

Two years ago, I went to Crested Butte and it was incredible!!

    Jason,
I have a SantCruz Blur LT for my mtn bike and a Seven titanium for my road bike. Wednesdays are my half day and today I was able to ride 2 hours in the woods. Saturday I'll ride a 60 mile training ride for Mt. Mitchell. The last 30 miles of this ride are a climb to the top of Mt. Mitchell (one of the tallest peaks on the Blue Ridge Parkway). My problem: 10 pounds too fat to be doing this this year. It's going to hurt.

I climb pavement hills with my Big 5 Sporting Goods $189 21 speed replica wanna-be sorta mountain bike-looking thing. No intentional off road stuff, though.

Started MBing back in the early 80's for therapeutic reasons. Had back surgery, (2 more since and some bad stuff, permanent kind). Did dick all for the back but fell in love with the activity. Mostly single track and logging roads. Could not find anyone I knew who was interested in perusing it any further. Ended up doing the vast majority of my riding alone.

For the most part, I commuted to and from work on MB year round, snow rain cold heat, all of it, for 17 years. The only time I didn't ride was due to injuries or if it has snowed, turned to slush then froze again. That hurts. Stopped commuting on MB when I started working out of town.

Started off with a cheap Sears thingamajig. Bought a Rocky Mountain Edge in 91 I think. One of the first full suspension. Wore that one out and around 2000 or so bought a Specialized Enduro Hybrid. Just loved that bike. Put lots of miles on this one in the short period of time I had it. In broad daylight some little shit nibbled away at a 1/2 cable in front of a busy Rec Centre and stole it. House insurance gave me $500.00. Bike was worth $2800.00 with add-ons. Have paid double what Insurance paid me in increased premiums. Replaced this one with identical but 2 years newer which I still have.

Don't ride much anymore. Will have to get back into it as I was really enjoyable. Don't go off road any more. I don't have enough sence to slow down and at my age, you don't heal the way you used to. Last time off road was near Winthrop Washington. The story here is I got struck by lightning the day before. (Actually hit a tree a few feet away and I got the side shoots of the bolt) Figured if I can survive that, a ride down the mountain was a sure thing.

Stuke. I am envious of your rides down there. Unfortunately I had no one else interested in doing any of that, and for self preservation, I would not ride somewhere where someone wasn't with me to pack me up when I went down. Now I am a bit too old I think.
