hi all new to the forum,,, until now i havent had much time to ride lately but all my old riding buds are ack on 2 wheels so with all the peer pressure i decited to get my 1991 vfr 750 out and once i cleaned the carbs i couldn't get the thing to start. acted like a dead battery, just hear the selonid clicking. tried jumping adn charging the battery and still nothing. well i decited to check the starter. when i pulled the starter a lot of the engine oil that was thinned out from what smelled like gas came out the hole where the starter was. gas tank was completely empty. looks like the petcock was nefer turned to the off position and i guess all the fas ran out thru the carbs and filled the crankcase with gas. so i drained the the oil and refilled. checket the starter. it was not locked up. so i put it back together. well still the same problem. seems like the motor is froze up somehow. i tried rolling it down the hill pulling behind a quad and rocking it back and forth. still nothing it just drags the back tire when i let out the clutch.
anyone had this type of experience or know where my next steb will be.
i put wd40 in the sparkplug holes and in the intake runners. let sit 3 days, no luck yet...

i am technical enough to take it apart but it only has 2300 miles on it. yep only 2300 and i dont want to if i dont have to..

    H.E.L.P.

    thanks bill

pull the plugs and put marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and let it sit for a couple days and then try cranking it over by hand. trying to bump start a bike with hydraulically locked cylinders can lead to bad things.

Try the same technique using Marvel Mystery Oil (in the spark plug holes). If it does succeed in freeing the piston ring/cylinder wall marriage, crank the motor over without the spark plugs in until your oil pressure light goes out. Then put the spark plugs in. The last thing you want to do is have it start up with little to no oil on the connecting rod bearings and main bearings. Even if the above works, there might be a problem with smoking and blow-by, but you never know until you try. FWIW, I have used the Marvel to unfreeze boat engines before.

After the oil has soaked for a day or two, it might be helpful to put the bike in gear (3rd or 4th, I'm guessing) and rock it back and forth. That will push/pull on the rings rather than try to force them in one direction. Oh, it is also a good idea to disable the ignition system when you dry-crank it to build oil pressure. Ignition systems with no electrical load (no spark plug to fire) can sometimes damage themselves.

Edit: That's funny! NorcalBoy and I were typing at the same time, apparently... Well, that's two votes for Marvel!

well i did pull the plugs and put wd40 in it 3 days ago. rocking back and forth in 5th gear it still wont budge. ill go for mystery oil tonight is there a way to crank it bu hand. i guess ill have to pull one of the covers on the crank to see if i can put a wrench on it..

Welll good news on the homefront. after a night of normal argument with the guys over the correct way to get the engine to turnover or buy a used engine. i went home last night and tried unsuccessfully rocking the bike back and forth to try to free the engine up i took a 16lb sledge hammer and LIGHTLY hit the head of the crank bolt on the left side.
i used a large hammer because i thought hitting with a larger mass would maybe free the crank vs the pistons. and sure enough after hitting the crank bolt 3 times from about 10 inches away i put a socket ont the bolt and turned the crank about 10 to 20 degrees. man was i happy. it seems that the pistons may have been stuck also but the marvel mystery oil may have loosened them up. and it may not have helped to free crank, a tap on hte crank bolt laterally seemed to do the trick. 40 min later back and forth with the socket the engine now turns freely up to a point where i suspect the rings on one cyl are a little tight but turns thru 360 degrees.
Before this i did pull off the valve covers and inspect the top end. i was able to push down an all the valves and get them to open. my next thing to do is pull the oil pan and clean that out before thinking about starting it...
Now i may have it running this week if i can get gaskets in for the oil pan and left side covers.

Are there any places other than the local honda dealer that i may get the gaskets. it seems the dealer will take up to 2 weeks to get them in. that is unacceptable in my opinion for a dealer....
