How do you get the "manifold" off the carbs on an '87 700. I want to sync the carbs and it looks like the adjusters are under the "manifold". Yes, I did remove the screws in the "manifold".

If its anything like an 86 then just keep tapping around the whole thing until it loosens up and lifts off.

Like TOE said, you're in deep do-do if you remove airbox bottom from carbs! Don't attempt ANY operation unless you read and study the Honda service manual first.

THE only way to properly synch carbs is with engine running and by accessing screws from bottom between the V

Is it not possible to install that cover again or what? Seems like the pins will just line up and pop right back on...with some massaging of course.

I will not for the love of god remove the manifold and wade in deep dodo. This is my first time working on a VFR, I have a lot to learn and this is the place to learn.

Once the airbox is removed from carbs they can wiggle around and loosen O-rings sealing fuel lines, and any of several springs could pop out.

Ahh, ok. So I might not be in it too bad if all I did is remove it and not touch anything else? I can just go put it back on and be OK...lol...hopefully

You sych the carbs with everything in place - nothing at all should be disassembled. It requires a 90° screwdriver to adjust the sych screws. It's not the easiest thing to do, luckily it doesn't need done very often!
