Hi, Would anyone know if this missing bolt is dangerous, just spotted it while giving the bike a clean, its located on the frame. In the second close up picture I think i can see what looks like a sheared off part in the opposite hole?
Hey Mark From the looks of the picture you showed and the diagram that Allyance is showing it would appear that the bolt you are missing is one of the engine/transmission mounting bolts. If you look at the link attached the parts you are missing are likely parts number 7, 16 and 23 on the parts fiche. As for is it dangerous, WELL, you might want to get that fixed before riding the bike too far. Here is the link - http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Honda/Motorcycle/1998/VFR800FI+AC/FRAME/parts.html# Part # 7 - 50356-MBG-000 COLLAR, ENG HGR --- COLLAR, ENGINE HANGER (Honda Code 5741590) Part # 16 - 90502-MM8-610 WASHER, PLAIN (10MM) --- WASHER, PLAIN (10MM) (Honda Code 3007317) Part #23 - 95801-10100-00 BOLT, FLG (10X100) --- BOLT, FLANGE (10X100) (Honda Code 3473766) Here are some pictures of the bolt in question (I think) on my 5th gen if they help identify what may be missing on your bike.
Or loose screws. I can't make out your pix on my anddoid but if zoom-zoom says, its a transmission bracket bolt, I would think there is a shit load of torque being exerted where it should not be and can be very expensive if not dangerous, for the sake of maybe $15.00 worth of parts.
woh thanks guys thats great help, more serious than i thought ill get down to shop for that asap, just hoping that the screw end of the bolt isint seared off in there
well the bits are orderd, through honda retail centre ireland and they had to order them from belguim, so im waiting for a call when they arrive, but im still using the bike..... it definately looks like the other end of the bolt seared off and is in the thread on the other side, gona cost me a few bucks to get them to take that out and refit..... ill let yas know!
Be carefull whilst on the bike like that... I had some missing fairing bolts (because of an idiot mom and pops rip-off cycle place near me). I was able to replace the fairing bolts with bolts from an home improvement store. I have recently ordered the correct bolts from Honda. I dont know if this advice helps but at least get something in that hole to support those important parts.
Do not ride that bike until you get a bolt in there. At best your flexing the frame at worst it could be your butt sliding down the road. The only thing that should be missing on a bike is bird shite.
I would think that seeing as NO ONE has suggested you ride like this, and a few have said not to, for you to continue riding it is kinda foolish don't you think? But its your bike and your ass sowhatever tickles ya.
Can't we just stick a huge zip tie in there? (LOL) I think you already realize the seriousness of this situation and know not to ride it the way she sits now. Rollin
zip ties have their place, I like safety wire too. I would just ride another bike for the time being. That is just me though. Cheers, miss Murphys Stout btw...
