I was told today (seller on ebay) that the condom mirrors i have cannot be replaced with the oem/pattern condomless ones, as "honda" change the 5th gen after just 1yr!!! i find this a little strange as i've heard nothing about this on any forum.

ALL I WANT IS SOME OEM 2001 MIRRORS :((((

Is there another meaning in the UK for "condom", other than the obvious?

    I guess there is!

The OEM mirrors on the 98-99 models came with the rubber boots on them. The mirrors on the 2000-2001 models came without (nicknamed Y2K mirrors). The mirrors from the 2000-2001 will fit your bike and the 4th gens for that matter. How do I know this?? Because I have a friend with a 98 that put the mirrors from a 2001 on his bike and a number of years ago I added a set of Y2K mirrors to my 97 VFR. The bolt spacing on both is the same to the best of my knowledge.

I just replaced the mirrors on my 97 with the 00-01 Emgo mirrors and they fit perfectly. I bought mine off of Amazon.

I just cut the mirror condoms off, they were so shrunken and cracked from sun exposure that there wasn't any point in keeping them. The mirror stalks underneath are a nice iridescent gold color and actually don't look half bad.
