Where can I find the "clips" that are riveted to the top of the lowers and the left side bottom stay for an 87 VFR700?

I would look for trashed lower and rob the part. A friend of mine change his out to a Zues fastener and it looks fine.

Do you mean the "clip" or the actual metal bracket that is riveted down?

In that case Toe's right I think. I haven't seen these anywhere. You might be able to get'em from vfr chuck.

    This is good advice here.

FYI, I am in process of redesigning this clip. I bought a set from my local dealer, and after a few times of uncliping and recliping, I have broken the spring and one stud. crap.

I bought a second set, and have them sitting on my work bench. I have reverse engineer'd the parts to prints for two of the 4 parts. (I admit I got lazy and just set it asside) for now I have 2 holes in each lower, and pulled the two together with two $0.06 black plastic zip tie straps.

I have determined the base metal for the bracket is a grade of P-20. Rather weak if you ask me. so I am changing this to a D-2. Still soft enough to be machined, drilled or worked on... and chrome or flash nickle will stick rather good to it... D-2 can also be heat treated to ~48-52 Rc I replaced the spring steel with a heaver gague. I got no idea what they used, as my Hardness tester, actuall punched a hole in it.

Any requests for me to complete this project? If not, it will stay on my bench till I get a wild hair.

D2 can be heat treated to the mid 60's rockwell C, right? That's overkill for this part. You want it tough, not hard. S type tool steel here makes sense to me but P series does makes sense for the progressive dies they use to make these parts.

I think we are talking about two different parts. I need the ones at the top of the lower fairing. They are riveted to the top of the fairing, where it clips to the headlight bucket.

OOOhhhh. I just used clips I got from Ace hardware in the Diameter I wanted when I needed this part as well. You can go Dzus fasteners though. Look em up there are a few places that cary them. I'll look, I think I have a website someone posted that have them.

Ok. Here it is. You'll see at the top left the Dzus kits. http://www.kurveygirl.com/shop/

ok, you are refering to what is called a "Cowl Setting Nut bracket". There are three of them per fairing. see pic... as you can see you can not purchase these from Honda or OEM.

These are not commonly made. You will probably be better off either making some from a machine shop, by using a piece of flat bar stock 3.5cm long by .200 cm thick. ; and tack weld on a M10 nut to each. drill two rivet holes in each side, have them chrome plated for rust preventative, rivet it to your bike, and you're done.

I got a cost estimate from my buddy here. you are looking at about $2.00 a piece.
