Started off with an 83 v65 magna fell in love with honda v4s! Picked up a 98 with 22000 on it this past winter and can't say enough about it! Only did 2500 mIles this summer due to a broken leg cutting the season short but pretty sure I'm keeping the bike for years to come.
Hi, Our stories are similar except my 99 is my first bike. This was my first full riding season, and it has been a real treat. Everything is relative. I am in the city and did fewer miles this summer than you even, but the enjoyment was immeasurable. It has lightly snowed here although for a handful of forthcoming nice days I hope to get out. Then she goes off for maintenance. I hope my mechanic can inspect the valves for me, as well as clean all electrical connections. They are periodically failing and it is time to refresh them so they do not continue to fail unexpectedly. I am planning on adding a Wideband 2 as well to auto-tune the Power Commander. Lastly touching up some dings on the LL fairing and putting a replacement decal on, and removing the giant ugly GIVI screen for a tinted OEM European screen. The bike will then look like new. It will be a long winter. Once you have something it is worse than never having it at all. I loved this first riding season and cannot wait for the next. I do have a second book to publish. The cold weather has just taken away most of my excuses for not working on it. Well, it will eventually provide some money for this riduculum and gas.
Yep, they are a fun loving machine for sure, especially if you are in tune to the motor, ie gear driven cams baby. Those V65s that particular year are bad ass. That year and that year only had accelerator pumps in the carbs, if I could find a clean one and the room, I'd have one, for sure a one of a kind. Not a bad way to introduce your self to a V4. Welcome to the fun house.
Yea probably not the best choice for a first motorcycle. Certainly was fun to tell people I had an old honda 1100 and then see the confusion when it pulls like a freight train.
