Hi all. I currently have an 86 vf500. It was a great bike to learn on but now I'm yearning for more. I'm trying to decide whether to go for a gen6 or a gen7 vfr. I think the later vfr800's are pretty rock solid from what I've read and I've seen a bunch of mixed opinions on the vfr1200's. That said, I'm looking for opinions, which way should I go? My local dealers (within 100 miles) don't have a current vfr in stock let alone an older 800. There's not a lot on CL in my area either so I can't really go tire kicking to check them out.

So please, let me know what you think. Which way should I go?

6th or 7th gen are both great. Personally I would go for ABS. What is your budget?

7-8k for the budget. I would like to get ABS on it as well. If it happens to come with a couple hard cases even better.

That budget pretty much drives a stake in the ground. I see a 6th Gen in your future. I have a 5th gen and really like it, but I would not bat an eye at getting a 6th gen. I think they are damned sexy.

    Keep us posted!

8k you lucky to find a 7th gen in that price range......
But you can have a pristine fully loaded 6th gen and some spare $$$$ for all the goodies like suspension and PCV

In that range you can get a great 6th gen. They are great bikes.

I'd up the budget by a grand (to $8500-9k) and get a nice used 1200. The extra HP/TQ is worth it, as is the brakes and shafty. the price you can currently get one at is too good to pass up. Half of MSRP really.
