Hey I am looking for boots since I am currently riding in steel toed Dr.Martins and I was wondering if these were good boots? I am a new rider and while I would like to commute on the bike ( it is a 4th gen) I am mostly riding with a couple friends on the weekends. I was just wondering if these would offer good protection or if I should keep looking.

Hey sounds like you have some good work type boots - steel toe is good. I perfer boots made for motorcycling. I would recommend AlpineStars and of course Sidi. Also check Tourmaster. I have been wearing a pair of Alpinestar boots that I need to replace and have narrowed my selections to two choices for summer riding:

AlpineStars: Waterproof with good shin and ankle protection - great sole for grip

I picked up a pair of these and I'm pretty happy with them.

I've had these for about 2 months now, with no issues. I know that most people seem to recommend Sidi and Alpine Stars but these boots have been pretty good. No seems falling apart or anything peeling away.

There are laces, which some folks don't like, but there is an additional Velcro flap/tongue that you can tuck the laces under to keep them out of the way. And its secures rather tight. There is an additional leather "pad" where the shifter hits your left foot (its on the right boot as well).

You can certainly wear these boots under your pants so if you have to do some walking around or want to wear them when you arrive at work.

They could probably use some additional reinforcement, but overall, they are secure, I can lace them up as tight as I want, and they are convenient. My feet don't sweat in them either. Can't say how they respond to rain, or how they are in cold temps.

The AS in Emon's post above are a real nice boot too.
