    Need exhaust help!

ok, I'm sure if I searched enough, I'd probably find the answer to this, but i've drawn tired from looking thru all the posts lol...

What is the easiest way to get a nice aggressive sound from my stock 86 VFR 700? Some people have told me to drill holes in the end plates of the stock mufflers, and some have told me to take them apart and remove the innards. I don't want a crappy sound, but i'd love for it to be louder. Not ricey loud, just meaner sounding. And as with all engines, less exhaust restriction leads to more power. I'd go with a 4-1 exhaust, but have had NO LUCK finding anything. Are there any cheap ways to get new slip-ons that sound louder and are less restrictive? Any and all help is appreciated!

Try Cobra for an aftermarket can. IMO,taking your stock can apart and seeing what you can and shouldn't do is better than just drilling holes and hoping for a good outcome. I've heard a couple of those drilled out specials and they wheeze.

An online search can be deceptive. To really find parts that fit your bike you have to drill down. Many sites just "feature" parts and goodies that fit current bikes. Some looking around, many times pays off. One site might be Dennis Kirk.

Dennis Kirk has nothing, and i've just not had any luck anywhere finding a complete new header/slip-on kit. I'm kinda afraid to tear the stock cans apart in case i screw something up and then stuck with no mufflers...

eh, finally found a different site with good directions on how to modify my stock cans, so guess i'll just go that route until i can find a bolt-on kit.

Finding a bolt on with the collector might be a chore. For the guys who have similar bikes you might want to post up the site that has the mods you mention.

Another alternative is a shop that does exhaust systems for cars. These guys do work like this all day. This BTW, does not include the big chainstore type exhaust shops. These are the outfits that when folks go in to have a pinhole wire welded, the "service" guy services them by telling them that the whole system is shot in the ass and it will only be five grand it fix it.

I'll copy the instructions later...I actually found a used vfr750f 4 into 1 system that uses a slip on  That will work the same on a 700, correct? Same bike, just de-stroked engine if my memory serves me correctly?
