While many of you were bracing for a fresh advance of winter’s blast the dealership where I work had their annual Bear Ride yesterday. The Polar Bear Ride is our first official group ride from the shop and the only one that takes place on a Saturday. It is also the shortest as it is a straight shot down I75 from Allen, TX to downtown Dallas. Our destination was a burger place called “The Stack house.” It is owned by a former MotoGP rider and a friend of the shop. This is not one of my favorite rides because it consists of crossing one’s fingers and hoping no one dies in the horrible traffic that is the Dallas norm.

We did all make it with no mishaps and it was good to see everyone again after a long dark winter. I took a straight shot home, following Gaston Ave until it turned into Garland Road. Garland Rd is actually state highway 78 that runs north east to Farmersville and on to my house. This is heh most direct route north east but it is just majorly congested close to town. When I passed 635 (the outer Dallas loop boundary) I was in Garland city limits and I got mixed up with a heavy bikers procession. These were patch wearing Bandito types but not purists because there were a few Wings among the Harleys. There were so many of them that the leaders were stopping traffic at signals to allow everyone to pass in mass. I am not cool with these antics and I didn’t want to be associated with them or have some idiot in a car single me out for special attention. They all turned off at a funeral parlor in Sachse so I assume that this was a biker funeral.

The temps were in the high 40s to mid 50s all day and I discovered that my Gerbing’s jacket liner does not work (I gotta test the controller). I stayed warm enough anyway. It seems we got lucky with the weather because the heavy rain and winter cold rolled in today. I can now I can face the bad weather to come have gotten a little riding in under my belt.

FYI the title should read "Local Polar Bear Ride." I fat fingered it.

    Jim

I thought I would throw this out as a teaser. We got a day to ride and now we got rain, freezing rain and ice. Spring's coming just not yet.
