To all, My 2000 VFR with 6500 miles is running with serious lack of power. It feels like a 60-70 HP bike. The problem started intermittantly and has progressivly gotten worse until now that is how it runs almost all the time. When intermittant, as you are running it would suddenly sound correct and the bike would lunge forward as power was restored. It Idles and does not backfire but the exhaust note does not sound right. After running a few miles it smells funny (I think hot) I changed the plugs and have run some injector cleaner (lucas). When the plugs were replaced, I could not see any that looked like they were burning badly, I looked at the spark and saw nothing conclusive . At this point I am not sure if I am dealing with an electrical or fuel problem. I believe it is mechanically OK as sometimes very briefly it can work. Any suggestions as to what it is or how to better narrow it down. Thanks to all.
Is your air-intake clean and clear of obstructions? ie.. is there a dead critter in there? Banana in the tailpipe? no one poured cement or something in the exhaust part? if it was a car I'd ask if the catalytic converter was clogged, but you don't have one on that bike.
Check out this thread on a simliar problem: http://vfrworld.com/forums/fifth-generation-1998-2001/15534-lack-power.html If you use the search feature above I'm sure you'll find some good tips.
Thanks to all and its fixed Thanks to both of your replys. To make a long story short, the air-box was fine, no fuel injection codes, compression was fine, and no obstructions in the exhaust. The spark plugs I put in were bad, (or I broke them). Anyway, keep it simple, it usually is  The bike is its usual strong self now :strong: Thanks for the help and the links, they all helped
