I bought my bike last winter, it came with 3 keys - 2 work the ignition, the other works the gascap and seat lock. Did the bike come with 2 keys (hard to believe) or was the ignition replaced on my bike for some reason? anyone know how hard it would be to re-key the igintion?

Maybe it was recovered and the ignition had to be changed due to the thief ruining the stock ignition. Definitely worth looking into...and info the seller should have provided.

The title is not salvage titled. I bought the bike under bizarre circumstances. To make a long story short the "owner" was a different person (and unnavailable) than the person on the title and who I bought it from, an old lady who didnt know a VFR from a moped. Also, the old lady/scumbag who decided not to keep up payments were the second owners.

well, as long as you have a good title now, you are in good shape. as far as the key goes, there are a couple ways. On my ninja, I had a similar situation so I bought a full lock set from ebay that included ignition, tank, seat lock, however even then I ended up with a key that works lock and tank and one that works seat so my set must have come form two bikes unless the baby ninja came that way in 89. Regardless it works now so I leave it well enough alone.

On the older bikes, the ignition, tank and helmet lock only used one side of the key. Honda cut both sides the same for convenience. You can have a blank cut one side to one key - and the other side cut to the other key. Should only cost you about $6 to find out...

If you've taken a lock apart it's really easy. You can remove the ignition, take the cylinder out, rearrange the tumblers until they are as close to correct as possible, file the ones that are too long, put it back together.

Or you can have the 2 key sides cut for the 2 different keys.
