I've been thinking it would be fun to add a VFR to the garage, so I joined this forum to read up on them. I've ridden a number of VFRs but never owned one. If I got a VFR I would still keep my other bikes, currently I have a DL1000 V-Strom and a TDM850. I mostly do touring, and I've ridden to a lot of faraway places, where I always seek out the twisty roads. I think it would be fun to move a bit farther in the sporty direction. I've done a few track days on my current bikes, but it would be cool to have a bike that could do the track a little better. Plus I love that V4 engine.

    Get it.

Just bought a new '06 after owning two new Ducati's in the last two years. For me the bike was the right choice. Almost as fun as the Duc's with infinitely more practicallity. And the V4 is amazing. Smoothest motor in motorcycling.

Welcome to the group elizilla. The VFR's are a blast to ride (at least I think so). They tour well and do the sport bike thing also. It's a very reliable machine as well. I agree the V-4 sounds way cool. I have a D&D pipe on mine and it sounds like a v-8 gto series race car  You find find a lot of good info here.

After joining this forum last July, and looking around all winter, I finally got my VFR about two weeks ago. It is a 1994 model, red, with 25,000 miles. It came with lots of good stuff, like heli bars, yosh pipe, corbin seat, givi topcase rack AND three case rack, upgraded suspension. I also got all the stock parts including the stock seat with the cowl. I have to fix a coolant leak but it's obvious where it's coming from, so that shouldn't be any big deal.

Don't worry, I'll be keeping the other bikes. I like them both too much to let them go so easily.

How do you like your TDM, those are fairly rare in the states.

I love the TDM. It is the most fun bike I have ever ridden. It's just plain sweet. I don't know what is the matter with the American motorcycle buying public, that the TDM languished on sales floors.

Unfortunately for the last year my TDM has been a project bike instead of a rideable bike. I am trying to sort out some carb and fuel issues. It had two problems. One was wear in the needle jets (normal wear, due to the characteristic vibration of the motor, but it was killing my fuel mileage). I installed replacement needle jets. The other problem was a troublesome vacuum operated fuel pump, and I replaced that with a solenoid operated pump out of an R1. Now it's way too lean at low RPMs and I'm troubleshooting that. I've pretty much ruled out the fuel pump and my next action is going to be to get the carbs out and double check the float heights. I also have other jets and needles I can install but I may not need them. I'm getting to be an expert at pulling these carbs! At least it's easier than V4 carbs.

Yeah, I enjoy the chat, and it also spares the non-riders around me from my constant burbling about the motorcycles. It was nice meeting you in there the other night. Too bad more people don't stop into the chat and say hi.

It's lovely in Michigan now. Hopefully this weather will move on to the east and you'll get a turn to have the sunshine too.
