just picked up a 5th gen 1998 vfr 800, last friday, went into the dealer to kill some time and left with a used but pristine vfr, i really dont buy on an impulse but i have always liked the vfrs, the opportunity presented itself and
now she lives with me! i normally research anything i am going to buy, but this i did in reverse, all i have read has been totally positive and am looking foreward to a long ownership of this bike... i bought my wife a 2007 ninja ex250, she said she would never ride anything bigger but shes ridden the vfr and loves it... so we will get rid of the 250 next summer, she can ride my vfr on the weekends , i keep my zx11 and ride the vfr during the week, btw she insisted i buy the vfr and keep the zx11.... she really makes it hard to complain about wifes ... i will be learing all i can from this forum, glad to be in
    thanks :blah:

I am resonably new to VFR'dom also, 03/07. If you like reliability, sound performance and good looking bikes, you made the right choice. I know one of the guys will be asking you this series of questions,so let me be the first. How many miles are on it,what accessories and modifications does the bike have, and if you dont mind ,what did you pay for it? Good luck with your new machine. eddie

Poidog; My 2000 VFR has a single exhaust pipe,as I believe all gen 5 versions came with. When you stated your exhaust has two carbon fiber canisters it dosent make sense to me. So tell me ,maybe you have some super secret pipe that I am not aware of. Good luck with the new machine. FYI, the majority of the guys on this site are very knowledge about their bikes. So
you did the right thing comming here to learn about them. eddie

    Re: Pipe

eddie its a real trick set up ... i have not seen one like it in all the photos or
thru parts dealers on the web i will try to post some pis this weekend, pipe has some markings but since dual canisters are quite tucked under the seat/ wheel well it makes it hard to tell who manufactured....

Now you really have my interest; Several months ago a gen 5 guy was talking about some sort of rare full exhaust system, not a slip-on, anyway as I remember it, a company made a full system for the fifth gen,but they only made a small amount of them. As I was told these systems are like finding the "Holy Grail" because it seems they worked really well on our bikes,so maybe you have one of those systems. I am sure one of the other guys will know more than I do about it. eddie

I have got to see pics of your bike. I have a stock '98, but would love to have underseat exhausts.

Think you may be a "Devil" .........Exhaust that is.

Sounds like you have a Devil "Shotgun" carbon fiber exhaust. Way cool and stylish and indeed almost impossible to find now a days. Do a web search on Devil exhausts and you'll be able to tell immediately. Congratulations on your new ride. I have a 98 with 57K and counting on the clock. The most pleasant and trouble free motorcycle I have ever owned. There is just something hypnotic about that 4 four, Gear drive Cam motor!

that's a cool set of pipes. wolf also made a dual undertail set for the 5g but yours must be the previously mentioned brand (I think) It seems like the wolf setup wasn't CF cans.

Poidog; I dont believe I have ever seen this system before. It looks pretty mean, especially with the crossed outlets. I believe if you ever wanted to sell the system, that you would get a pretty penny for it, eddie

    Welcome!

That's a SICK set of pipes on that Viffer you got there. Would love to hear a sound clip.

Can anyone ID what "brand" they are?
