Well I say new, but I've been a bit of a lurker for a while. Reading the enthusiasm on this site helped me decide on a new '08 VFR800A. I've just moved to California (Bay Area) and I'm looking for any great rides and events people like to attend. Well perhaps I should rephrase - from the 450 miles I've put on my bike here in CA, it seems like all the roads are good, so maybe some GREAT roads! Anyway I love the bike, and while I'm still getting my suspension settings tuned, I can tell it's going to be a great and rewarding machine.

After I get that first 600 miles on my bike this weekend, I'm thinking about a drive up Hwy 1 to Oregon, and from there taking 101 or 5 all the way to Seattle (I have family there). Has anyone made this trip before, and if so do you have any recommendations?

    Welcome to The Golden State.
Can't tell you about the whole ride to Seattle, other than it will take you a while going up the coast, but the section of 101 from Leggett to Eureka is the best ride I've done so far. Take the "Avenue of the Giants" when you come to it. Well worth the time, it parallels 101 for quite a ways.( Big Trees, Really Big Trees, two lanes, lots of curves).
Hwy 1 is always worth the ride, great views, many good places to stop. Hwy 1 south is great also, at least as far as Morrow Bay.
Hwy 50 from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe is a great ride also. As are most of the rides throught the Sierras.
Most of these rides are much better during the week. Fewer people who are afraid to change direction. If you get my drift.

Good luck and have fun, it's all out there.
    Dave

Thanks! I really like the color too. I managed to get mine with ABS for $9875 OTD (sans taxes - I bought the bike out of state and paid taxes when I registered in CA). I hear the non-abs goes for about $1k less. I made quite a few calls and definitely found it pays to shop around. I got quotes that were $3k higher at some shops I called.

Thanks for the tip Singer732! That sounds pretty much perfect. I'll give that a try in a few days.

Just finished my trip up to Newport on my VFR! It was pretty fantastic - the bike did great, and I'm still reveling in how smooth that engine is. I saw some beautiful country, and even after being a little sore today, I can't wait to do it again. Here's a blog post with some details:
