    just like to say HEY to all. Picked up my 98 vfr 2 weeks ago, and immediately fell in love, I'm not too proud to testify! Previous owner, when questioned as to why he was selling, said he was looking for a newer model. I asked him if he was not concerned about the v-tech thing, and he seemed not to know what I was talking about, so I let it go. I'm new to this bike, but already I can understand all the fantastic reports I've read about the vfr.

    I had been out of biking for a while, first bike an H1500 Kaw triple that I rode to Daytona in 1980, so that ages me! KZ550, and GPZ550 after that, then a big black KZ1000, flat black Yosh pipes, braided ss lines, BMW bars - am I still being aged? A break in the action (wife, etc.), then one of the first Ninja600's, did I say I was a Kaw addict? OK, an RD350 thrown in "for something completely different" and you get the idea. Anyway, there will never be another "break in the action" again. Currently, I have a KLR650 (old habits die hard), but it is my trainer and commuter, and really is a fun bike. But this VFR is so awesome, so solid, composed, competent and fast. So that's my history, now on to current events.

    I'm sure you experts here will have some answers to a few questions;

    The service manual recomends valve check at 16K, and this is just shy of that. Is this something a reasonably competent, mechanically inclined person can accomplish, or should a dealer, or tech do this?

    Is there a shop in the Harrisburg, PA, Baltimore MD, Philly PA area who knows VFR's, and can be recommended?

    Is the HSTA meet worthwhile attending, and is there any riders out there who would like to meet for rides?

    Thanks

    Hi CDRIDER and welcome to the group. Congrats on your purchase and its great to hear you are happy with it. I woild venture to say a reasonably competant, mechanically inclined person could do the valve inspection job, with a service manual in hand, and some patience. It's not a job I would rush through obviously.

    I can't speak for dealers in your area, but you can call and ask if they do much work on vfr's. Tho I should point out that vfr's are pretty reliable.

    I have never attended an HSTA meet, so I can't give any info on that point.

    no expert, but I'll give it a shot.
    Agree with VMan, I'd do it myself and I don't consider myself a mechanic by any means.
    Can't comment on that one, but you could try our member map and see if you can find a member over that way...
    I have heard good things and would like to attend myself but never have.

    Valve Adjust

    Thanks for the suggestions, and appreciate the welcome.
    Of course I ignored them all and took it to my local dealer!

    I already have 1 project in pieces in my shrinking garage (91 Katana 600), so I decided to tackle the valve adjst. job next time.

    Thanks again
