    Hi,
My 1996 VFR750 has recently started cutting out both in gear and idling in neutral. There's no rough running and it will start again just fine sometimes. Other times there's no life at all. The dashboard is dead without any activity except for the digital time clock. I've checked battery and reg/ rec. They're OK.
It behaves as if someone just flicked the key off. It comes back when it wants to and then it's fine again. Am I right in thinking it's the ignition switch or a loose connection in the ignition switch circuit?

It definitely sounds ingition related. You may want to check the connector, before you get another switch though. For some strange reason, they have been found to be loose.

Inspect the connections on top of starter relay, looking for any melting or burning.

Check battery connections for tightnessw, and clean both ends of the main ground wire from battery to frame or engine.

Next time it fails, wiggle the ignition switch bottem, wire connector, starter relay connections...have a good look at the main fuse, too.

Thanks all - problem sorted. Karazy and Dizzy, both right. It was a damaged wire that runs out the bottom of the ignition switch. 14 years of being flexed back and forth across 113,000 miles had taken its toll and it had frayed leading to intermittent cut out. Bike now back on road ready for another 100,000 miles!
