    Hello all

I was looking to get rid of the old, not very bright light I have for my 1986 VF 500.

Interestingly enough I was looking at Xenon or Halogen bulbs, I'm looking for a blueish tint type of bulb, something like 6,000k.

Is this possible for this type of bike, has anyone does this?

I'm just curious really, I've been doing some research and I keep seeing things that are kits with a buncha crap, others its just the bulb, I'm confused on what to do.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Also:

Does anyone have any performance type upgrades for these bikes and where to find them? I know its a pretty quick bike stock but I'm looking to get a little more bang out of it. Any help in this area either?

    THANKS!

I bought a set of HID hiogh beams for minewhich is a 6th gen. I love them and may just replace the lows as well. But it is more than a bulb. There is a ballast as weel for each bulb. I can't tell you right now what kind they are cause that stuff is at home and I am on the road for two weeks. Bit they were $79.00 canadian each

Well from what I see when I look at my bike there appears to be only one bulb, there is only one big spuare headlight.

So I'm not sure if I'd just have to buy one kit or how it all works, i'm very confused about the matter as you can tell lol.

If you google HID motorcycel lights, you should find all sorts of places that sell every kind of motor cycle light you could ever think of. Except L.E.D. tail lights for a 6th Gen. They are like Sasquatch. Rumored to be out there but no one can find them.

I've been searching for two days and I'm not sure what to do lol. I'm just really confused about the matter.

I'm thinking this is what I need

HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning

If yes just say so and I'll be buying it immediately, for that price its unbeatable, also

What should I do, 35 W or 55 W, what would the difference be, If i were to run 55 W, would it be unsafe for the bike?

That's where I got the HID kit for my bike. 35w, 8,000k. Looks amazing. No need for 55w kit. My only complaint is that there is not a lot of places to hide the ballasts.

I ordered the H4 kit, but had to modify the headlight reflector to make them fit (not DDM's fault or the kit, but Honda-specific wierd-o bulbs).

    Highly recommended.

What do you mean the reflectors exactly? Can you elaborate please. I just want it to look nice, especially with the blue.

The tabs on Honda H4 bulbs are not in the same place as a standard H4 bulb, so you either have to cut extra notches in the housing, or run adapter rings and cut 2 tabs off the bulb to have them stay in tight. This does not apply to 6th gen, but I know 4th G and I think 5th G too have to modified in one way or the other. I am not sure if yours would have the weird tab bulb or not.

Okay thanks I appreciate the information alot.

Also do you know what oil these bikes take? I'm planning on switching over to synthetic but I'm not sure of the weight. I'm only used to cars.

Search for a Service Manual on this site to download for your bike. It will undoubtedly answer many of your questions...

Thanks for the information, I'm downloading the manual currently.

I also notice there is alot of talk about upper oiling kits for these bikes, What is the problem that this is needed? Would using a synthetic oil and changing oil often replace the need for an oiling kit, if not how much are they?

the early bikes had poor oiling to the upper parts of the engine causing premature failure of cams and valve i believe. the oil kits increase the oil flowing to the upper end of the engine to help circumvent this.

DYI, DDM Tuning makes some great stuff. Give them a ring and speak with someone. They will guide you through what you need.

Okay thank you for your help I appreciate it.

The last question, this should be answered fairly easy, what weight oil is needed for these bikes? Or my bike specifically.
