Last week I strolled into a local bike dealer to kill some time. I already had a motorcycle, a friend is buying it now. I stumbled across a beautiful bike. It was a 2004 Honda VFR800 Intereptor with 3,175 miles. I fell in love. So yesterday I got pre-approved for a loan and today I finalized it and around 5:45 pm I rode it home. Over the weekend I did some exhaustive research into the bike (I do that with ANYTHING I buy) and just fel in love with it some more. It seemed to be the perfect bike for me. Handles great, has great power, great brakes, and is very comortable. The test ride right before I bought it just set everything in stone for me.
So I have a few questions. Is the windshield one whole piece or is the bottom piece that divides the headlight separate? The whole thing is body colored on mine, but I like the part that divedes the headlights as is. I just want a translucent windshield. What is the best rear fender eliminator kit? The dealer recommended 16k miles between valve adjustments, but that seems like a lot. I also didn't buy it from a Honda Dealer. If there is anything else I should know about the bike, please let me know. I am so happy with this bike and it will fit my needs perfectly.

These are dealer photos since it is too dark and raining for my own.

Welcome and do not sweat the valve adjustment, I just bought another 2002 with 132,000 miles on it and it has never been done and still runs great, but am doing a valve adjustment now. As far as exhaust I will leave that to others and the fender thing as well.

Do you know anything about the windshield? I would rather the lower bit stay red, but I would be willing to make it a different color if necessary. That's good news on the valve adjustments. That is the only bit of maintenance I can't do aside from mounting tires. I'm a pretty mechanically inclined guy. I'm crazy about cars and have gotten really into bikes in the past few years. My previous and first bike is a 1980 Honda CX500 custom. I just grew out of it and really wanted a new bike. It was dirt cheap though...

The windscreen is a single piece. The best fender eliminator out there is made by Competition Werkes. There's a few threads out there that give tips on installation details. Some have complained that on the pre-2006 bikes, the VTEC engagement is harsh. Get a Power Commander and that will smooth things out as well as fix the snappiness of the FI. Other than that, the bike is bullet-proof and at 3200 miles, yours is pretty much brand new. Congratulations and welcome to the forum.

I was definitely thinking about the power commander. I looked up some dyno graphs of stock bikes and noticed the crazy jagged line from the bike running so lean for emissions. I know it won't really make any more power, just smooth it out. IN the future after I get more used to the bike, I will possibly get a new intake and exhaust + the auto tune. It sucks that I can't keep the center piece red, unless you know of a windshield that has a colred center piece.

The windshield ends on the bottom where the space begins between your headlights. That piece between your headlights I believe is called the Instrument Trim Panel. If you look in the driver compartment area behind the windshield, you will see two Phillips screws on each side that holds on a faring trim panel on each side. Once those are removed there are two Allen bolts beneath where the trim was that holds the windshield on. Remove these and push the windshield up and out. It is extremely simple.

Welcome to the zoo bro. Not positive- but I think I recognize that bike. If it's the one I think it is, my buddies CO over at 20th Engineers (or 307th... dunno) over by Hoskins Gym had it last summer when I was still there. Popular color. There's a MP who has a white 06, and then my RWB were the only other 6g's on Bragg. I saw 3 or 4 other red ones in the 'Nam area when I was shopping though.

I get back into town on most 4-days & holidays (not this weekend though). I'm out in Hope Mills. Shoot me your info & I'll put you on the blast list I fire off when I'm coming home. We'll Ride.

Welcome aboard! This site is a great resource for all things VFR. There are also quite a few very knowledgeable people here if you ever find yourself in a pickle.

With that, you should be able to find a replacement windshield for your bike. I changed mine out to a Givi that is slightly smoked, but the are others like MRA, Zero Gravity, if stock isn't to your liking.
