    Hi all,

Can anyone give me any help or suggestions about solving the problem of mounting my new Zumo 550 on my 750FS?

The problem is that I ride with a tankbag (Bagster Medea) and I can't use the ram mount on the clutch control as it fouls bigtime. I looked elsewhere on the forum and saw several things about mounting on the centreline using the tank mounting bolts but my 750FS doesn't have these!

I would have been happy enough sticking it in the pocket in the tankbag, but in Garmin's design wisdom the damn thing can't be externally powered or used to full effect unless it's connected to its cradle...

Anyone found a solution to this problem, or got any suggestions?

    Cheers all!

The website below also has lots of mounting options. I'm currently using a stem mount for my Garmin Streetpilot 2610 and it works a treat!

I had that problem with the zumo 550 on my 6th gen too, can't use even a small tank bag because the gps plows into it. I didn't really see anywhere else practical to mount the thing. Since the zumo includes rammount hardware, you might see what else RAM Mounting Systems, Inc. has to offer for base mounts.

I like the zumo mounted on the clutch bracket though since it makes for a shorter reach to touch the buttons.

    My Zumo 550 mount

For what it's worth, my photo gallery contains 2 photos of the Zumo 550 mounted onto my 2007 VFR800A. The photo that you may find most helpful is titled 'Zumo 550 mount, radar detector mount'. (I believe that both of these mounts were ordered through CycleGadgets.com.) These 2 photos are not side-by-side, so you will need to scroll through my photos to see both images. (I haven't yet been successful at pasting my photos into a post here, so if someone knows how to insert these 2 images from my photo gallery, into this discussion, please feel free to do so.)

In regard to how my Zumo 550 is mounted on my VFR, I think that several points are worth mentioning:

    1) I don't use a tank bag, and therefore I don't have to contend with the problem of a tank bag interfering with the Zumo;

    2) Although at first look it may seem from these 2 photos as though the position of the Zumo might obstruct my ability to clearly see the bike's instrument cluster and cockpit displays, such is not at all the case. Rather, this appearance is merely an artifact of the camera's angle relative to the bike's cockpit. When I'm riding the bike I'm able to clearly see all cockpit displays quite effortlessly, and I'm also able to easily reach in with a gloved hand to push and operate the cockpit display's control buttons, although this is admittedly best accomplished when the bike is at a stop.

    3) The Zumo mount shown on my bike is not only very sturdy and stable, it's also very easily adjustable in order to soon arrive at the optimal position and setup for one's particular height, riding posture, preferences, etc.

Finally, I will also mention that I'm not a big fan of tank bags, be they of the magnetic- or strap-mounted type. I long ago came to the conclusion that at least for my usual needs and preferences, tank bags are all too often more trouble than they're worth.

To my way of thinking, tank bags tend to invite chafing and scratching of the tank's paint, and they may interfere with easy and unobstructed access to the fuel cap during refueling. Moreover, if one happens to have a fuel
spill-over due to overfilling while a tank bag is in place, some of the spilled fuel may very well saturate the bottom surface of the tank bag, whereupon it may then begin to chemically attack the tank's paint and clearcoat.

    Opinions will vary.

    All the best,

    Kurt

Hm that is interseting. Hey how did you get the Honda logo to show up on the zumo like that?

I think I have seen Joe Foe from Buffalos pics with a zumo and valentine one but I forget how he has them mounted......

This is my install, just the included ram mount and tied power into the parking lights. Doesn't work too good with a tank bag, but I don't use the tank bag because it also in teh way of my arms when doing semi agressive cornering.

    Hi chaps,

Thanks all for your advice and ideas. I have found a company in the UK which make the "Telferizer" - a stem-mounted ball compatible with the RAM system - which will fit the VFR750. I've ordered one and once it arrives I'll let you know how I get on with it!

    Cheers,

    Andy

Telferiser arrived (together with long RAM arm mount) and it's perfect! And it only took 30 seconds (literally) to fit! Solid as a rock and puts the Zumo in just the right spot

    Pics below - cheers all!

Techmount has a steering stem mount just like Netballman's only without the ram ball mount. Comes with the mount plate that exactly fits the 4 mount screws for the Nuvo 550. I ordered an additional 3" stem to use with my tankbag ...works like a charm. Cost was $70. I can post some pics too if u need them.
    Cheers
