I am new to the forum and to the VFR. When I am reading I notice you guys talking about "maps" with Power commander. I am not sure what that means. Can someone help me? Also in the exhaust threads, they were talking about a spud. What is the spud? If anyone can help me I would be very greatful. Thanks for all your guys time, I am learning a lot.
The "map" is a calibration for the power commander. It changes the OEM ecm (electronic control module) calibration to something else. Usually this change affects how much fuel is mixed with the incoming air at a particular RPM.
Maps are data files supplied to the fuel injection module (Power Comander). They tell how much fuel to supply the engine at specific RMPs. Spuds are baffles that are inserted into the end of your mufflers. Most of the time they come with after market exhausts and people remove them for sound or air flow. Hope that helps
great Scott: There's more under fuel injection on wikipedia if you want to look further... don't confuse a MAP sensor with a Map for the Power Commander as they are different ;-) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_injection#Detailed_function
