so.... after two years of owning my vfr with no problems i finally had my first REALLY stupid mishap... just got done washing, drying and aplying plexus and went to move the bike back into the gerage. i looked down @ the kickstand which appeared to be fully extended. i sat the bike down and walked away. about 10-15 seconds later i heard a booming crash and immediatly knew what had happened. i picked the bike up and suprisingly enough found no damage to the fairings. the left rearset was bent upward but that was it. when the bike went down the front wheel hit a refridgerator and caused the bars to go all the way to the locked right position. this caused all the bikes weight to land on the rearset and the bar end. i was very happy with the outcome at first. all i had to do was get a left rearset shiped overnight and i would not miss my big ride on sunday. i started the bike and it sounded very good (as usuall) but when i went to put it in gear the bike shut off. i know its the kick stand sensor but it seems to have no damage. so i have a couple questions: first, is there a way to bypass the kickstand sensor so that i can just order a rearset and ride this weekend. second, is there a sensor on the centerstand because it looks to have a little rash and may be not allowing the bike to go into gear. third does anyone have a left rear set for an 04 vtech that i can buy form them with paypal . thanks guys hope you can help!
Yes, you can bypass it. Follow the wire and disconnect it at the 2pin plug. Take a small wire and use it to bridge the two plugs in the connector. It doesn't have to be long at all, and all you need to do is strip each end of the wire, make sure it is touching both plugs on the connector, and tape it in place with electrical tape. Tape it securely so that it doesn't wiggle or come loose while riding. If you need to see something in the service manual to get an idea of where it is at or what you are dealing with, it is in chapter 20 on page 25. The sidestand switch is a simple open circuit/closed circuit switch. When the side stand is down down, the circuit becomes open and when it is up, the circuit becomes closed. There is nothing special going on here. Ride on and remember to put the stand up so you dont find an unexpected problem turning left.
Not a problem. I know many that ride without them due to having the switch fail on them or removing the side stand on the track bike. Short it out for now and replace it later if you want or ride forever without it.
